Underdone Topics for Strips

Posted under General

So, I'm a new artist (as in like a week) who has yet to prove how much he sucks (don't worry, it won't take long). I've been going from the first abuse image to the most recent, and I'm at page 230 so far, and I've been noticing a LOT of common topics for abuse, as well as people saying "unoriginal."

What are some topics/scenarios/etc. that you'd like to see more strips of, and/or that are generally underdone, or very little of it exists currently?

You can just do what you like and I will probably be happy with it.

If you are open to requests, I have some oddly specific ones:
-Power tools and industrial equipment often get underused. Ritualistic execution via a pile driver could make some hilarity if well executed
-The livestock/food prep angle often gets under served. They are walking bags of food, yet there isn't a whole lot about cooking them.

One odd thing that often gets unaddressed by the fanon: nobody seems to pay any mind to the smell when these things burn. If you burn a piece of food to the point where it chars, it is going to stink. There has yet to be a single neighbor complaining about the noise and odor.

Another thing that gets left out: when has the badge system ever been enforced against an abyuser? This is one of those things that is left entirely undeveloped.

I think those opinions in particular are largely shaped by their expectations of quality content from our oversea neighbors since we get so much from them and yet a lot of them follow the same storytelling conventions and cliches even from the really good artist. Usually if the artist is of our community, people tend to take in their work with more opened arms. I think this is because people are happy to see more work coming from out of Japan.

Yuyu, Kodokueajy, Nell, and Zidana123 had their own kinds of stories to tell that were pretty unconventional comparatively to the typical yukkuri storytelling but they were and still are beloved. SUN told really controversial stories that had a very divided line of opinions but probably made the largest impact for not being afraid of sharing them. Fly and anon0014 didn't do very many stories but they're loved for their art alone. Danogoat loves SatoParu and we accept him for it.

Point is don't be afraid to do what you want to do. Create your own original work or pick up a request: People are just happy to see more content in the end.

The unoriginal stories usually follows this steps:

1. Yukkuris introduced
2. Anon appears
3. Yukkuris abused and killed

While most stories do follow this formula, additional twist and information can make a story "unique". Ill give Kiriraita's "True Happiness" as an example, while it follows the steps above 100% it still feels "unique".

The introduction was lenghty, almost 1/2 of the whole story. That gives the reader more information about the yukkuris, the reader in return might feel "emphaty"(i cant find a better word) for the yukkuris.

The appearance of the anon was expected because the writter/artist writes/draws mainly abuse story, but because of the introduction you know what kind of yukkuris are in this family, in turn making you think if the anon is good or bad or if the yukkuris deserve this fate or not.

The abuse section is pretty much straight forward, just make the yukkuris regret living. what you could do is think of a more creative way, remember that yukkuris are originally floating heads of touhou characters that somehow evolved into living cave-dwelling manjus with accessories and some of them adapt to living in urban areas. Yukkuri biology differs from artist to artist and writers to writers, but there are similarities between artists/writers like for example how they react when their accessories are taken off.

The twist part of the story is that...well if you read that then you know what it is but if you didnt then i suggest that you do if you like abyuse. This part can make or break the story.

Also, do remember that you dont always have to write a story that is mainly abuse.

TL;DR: its ok to copy other stories but make sure you add your own twist to it. For uncommon/unexplored story settings read what exitstrategy and ThatOneGuy says. Just do what you want.

(Not part of the tl;dr)TBH i welcome any new content specially those with decent story. New artists like you are always welcome.

Updated

I'd like to see more yu POV stories. Some ideas are:

Perception: Even the smartest yu is dumb as dirt. But is it lack of intellect, misunderstanding, fixed mindset or physical issue? There was a short pool where a Marisa was looking at her family before she went off to hunt-hunt. Marisa find some glasses and puts them on and sees her family as a fat Deibu and a slovenly child. But did Marisa see them as they actually were or did the glasses distort her vision?

Human behavior/logic: Something rarely touched on and usually incidentally. Do yus ever learn from watching humans and try to better themselves? Or can they really understand what may be to them abstract concepts, even if useful? Could, say, Nazrin comprehend triangulation to complement her ability to find stuff? Can Marisa ever comprehend Anon's house isn't her "easy place"? Does Alice ever think accessories aren't "city-sect" because she notices human women don't wear them?

Regular yus versus bodied yus: Another topic I can't recall seeing in artwork. The closest you'll see is bodied Yuukas killing ordinary yus raiding her garden. In my headcanon, bodied yus don't really care for ordinary yus and don't feel entirely at ease with humans despite having more in common.

Hypnotism: Will it work on yus?

Food: Yus are shown to be able to eat anything they can get in their mouths. Sometimes, like with peppers or moldy food, it doesn't work out. Be imaginative with foods and how yus react. For example, yus love sweet stuff. But I've never seen them exposed to artificial sweeteners. Would they notice a difference? Would they have any adverse effects? My headcanon has yus not able to discern a difference in taste but get migraine headaches from saccharine or aspartame.

Alright. All of this is really appreciated. I'll try and write out unique stories to draw strips of. I'll try and use some of these abyuse/exploration suggestions as much as possible. Thanks.

It does look like Yukkuri are weak against the power of suggestion.

Hypnotism could work in an interesting way with the power of belief some artists have used before, like in kiri's Between Studies.

I remember an anko that uses the power of sugestion as its main theme.

The story starts with your usual house invasion but instead of anon killing/abyusing them on the spot the anon talks to them something about what does "easiness" means. I cant remember the whole story but the anon says that they are "non-living" things and compares them to a pastry and after some talk anon somehow conviced the yukkuris to imagine what its like to be a pastry and after sometime they really turn into a real manju.

also while yukkuris have this power of belief thing they are still just animated manjus meaning this power is very limited.

Myself. I know I'm more a rationalist that most here, but think on it-shithead yus believe they're the center of the world, going to kill humans and lots more ridiculous stuff. You sanction "power of belief" and you effectively give them godlike powers.

Actually, this is pretty interesting and deserves its own topic.

I can't remember which pool it was in, but one anon actually convinced a yukkuri family that diaper rash was possible for kos to get, and because the family believed it the kos did indeed get rashes.

how about a hentai story where the Yu's to work at glory hole establishment.

or a story involving archery

It usually falls under a higher priority rule that everything is possible as long as it's to made the yukkuri's life a living hell.
So power of belief don't work against human because it bring advantage to the yukkuri.

Exclusion is if such case can be used to justify large scale human hatred towards yukkuri, or for the lulz.

I think a story showing yukkuri is more than what human looked them down upon is an less explored topic. Most of the fandom caters to using the yukkuri as object to receive violence and torture.
There are those who pretend "neutral, business as usual", those who took long time to show the yukkuri are jerk who deserve fate worse than death, or those who took satisfaction in enjoying how they can torture the yukkuri without any fear of repercussion because of human's superiority.
And even when saying yukkuri are good, it's usually with weak argument, in mocking tone, and made to show that those who sided with yukkuri should open their eyes and understand their mistaken beliefs.

This power of belief thing is quite limited, while it allows some stuffs ranging from stunting a yukkuris growth because the anon convinced it that this particular food will stop it from growing to fixing its shreded accessory because the anon conviced the yukkuris that physical contact with its accessory will fix it.

It sounds powerful on paper but it will still not allow the yukkuri to do something that they shouldn't because of this rule called limitation of paste(i forgot the artist that says this).

True, but then it ultimately isn't "power of belief". It's delusion..maybe I'll call it delyusion:P Power of belief necessarily has to produce the intended effect or there's no "power".

That's kinda what I was thinking when I suggested self-improvement; what is a yu's self-directed potential and what's the inspiration. I don't want to see tired stuff like deus ex machina drugs/devices. Really, in one sense I don't care to know how it happens but why.

The stunted growth I agree with, but not the accessory restoration. We know there's not a canonical bible, so artists are fairly free to go anywhere with their stories. That said, it's as close to canon as you can get that neither accessories nor hair regenerate since it's by far the more common outcome. Now, is that because it continues the theme of yus are to be hated or inherent limitations?

Maybe the accessory restoration is stretching it a bit too far but maybe with orange juice(or the equivalent for certain yus) hair restoration should be possible unless the "scalp" is burned or something.

How about those with braids or something similar? What will or should happen if you undone the braids.

I'll say its their inherent limitation. We are talking about animated but not-really-yokkai manjus here.

My own thoughts on hair loss is a yu is like a Mr. Potato Head toy; start with a snack cake and add decorations. So anything not part of the pastry they are based upon doesn't regenerate, even eyes. That said, I don't think it's unreasonable for orange juice to regenerate hair but not accessories. The Akyuu Guro pool had a pregnant Marisa whose hat was part of her body. In that case, it's fair to assume the "hat" would heal.

I do remember seeing..reading something where an Anon was going to give a Maricha a bath and undid her braid. IIRC, the hair couldn't be re-braided and was explained something like "the magic escaped". Myself, I don't see if the hair is there and your sight/dexterity is good why you couldn't re-braid hair.

Yes, there are no rule on yukkuri's canon. The only existing thing is that some idea are more popular and widespread than the others.
Isn't there an Anko where a Dosu Marisa transform into a star ? With planets orbiting it and human living on those planets.

But unless your story depend on such details about yukkuri biology, it's best to avoid becoming the dancing caterpillar and focus on the plot.
The community is quite tolerant as long as you can have a good storytelling (excluding individuals who are much more strict about "realism" and "consistency").

Personally, I think that without an established, official canon, the guidelines surrounding yukkuri physiology and behavior are practically fair game. It's up to the readers to decide if someone's potentially being Mary Sue-ish in how they portray yukkuri.

Speaking of which, isn't that the problem people were having with Game2002's stories? Basically that his stories were more or less moralization against yukkuri abuse? Or was it just bad storytelling?

It's also crucial to note here that this is why you rarely see abyuse comics involving yukkuri like Medicine and Utsuho, given the potential for humans to get seriously hurt according to established fanon rules. The so-called "common types" are the ones most used for those comics because you don't have to worry about shoehorning established consequences into the abyuser's actions.
