Most yukkuri will grow over time, some at different rates than others.

How much time? Right now I'm training and breeding a bunch of gold-sparkle yukkuri and I'm wondering how many in-game days it takes for a newborn to grow into a small adult. Fast-forwarding the calendar doesn't seem to fast-forward their growth.

Also, it doesn't seem like the adults grow at all. In fact, you can only get the big ones by roaming the forest.

Yukkuri grow very, very slow
The in-game calendar's only purpose is to give you "seasonal" yukkuri, e.g. in autumn you can get yukkuri with a pear-shaped accessory regardless of their type (I have a Remilia like that)
Growth is calculated from gameplay time (i.e. how long you have the game opened) and, I think, what you feed them
I don't know if it applies to adults too
In Breed&Observation adult yukkuri could die of old age (it happened to an Alice I had), don't know if it happens oh Diary too

If you want a reference about the time, I have a baby Youmu born prematurely
When she was born, I could barely select it because she was too small (it was smaller than the palm of the hand)
I played about 30 minutes every day for about a month, giving her cookies or pizza, and now she is barely big as a koyukkuri

Good to know. I usually feed mine leaves, with the occasional pudding or cookie as a treat. Death happens in Diary, too - just had two Dosu-sized Marisas die on me during my last playthrough.

I can't really figure out from reading the thread, so might as well ask again some questions:

  • How do I know if a yukkuri is a shithead?
  • Do I just need to do the scold trick (keep scolding them until they can't take it anymore, give back the accessory and praise them) to make them nice?
  • How do I know if two yukkuri are going to refresh?
  • Is there some kind of statistic about how often two yukkuri would refresh?
    • I have an Alice and a Patchouli who used to make a lot of little ones, to the point I had to sell some, and now they're doing nothing at all
  • Is there any significant difference between silver and gold sparkles?
    • I got a Youmu (the one from the previous post) with gold sparkles, born from silver sparkles, and they seem equal in quality
  • Is there anything hinting at how accessories are hinerited?
    • I have a Marisa-hatted Sakuya, and all the little ones she had with Pear-hatted Remilia have Marisa's hat (she's the father iirc)
  • Are there "lacking" yukkuri, or are they just a consequence of overscolding (which can be cured with praise)?

Just now I got a Sakuya with Remilia's accessory (which is more apple-shaped than pear-shaped but whatever) and she sparkles with gold (she was born from two silvers)
At the same time I got a drooling Marisa from a Cirno-ribbon Reimu and a normal Marisa
I sold it because I didn't want to deal with it and I have three Marisa anyway
What's funny is that she farted while still on the stalk

  • Shitheads usually fart all the time (when you give them love, when they sleep, etc). Some of them also drool.
  • Keep scolding them while watching their value. If it jumps from single digits to double or triple digits, give them praise until their value takes another major leap.
  • Some will begin rubbing each other ferociously, but that's no guarantee. You usually won't know until after they've grown a stalk or whatever.
  • Sadly, no.
    • How old are they? Maybe they don't refresh as often when they get older?
  • Higher value, higher likelihood of siring gold-sparkle offspring and changes in dialog upon death.
    • Bluesnow didn't do a good job in distinguishing gold and silver-grade yukkuri aside from visual FX.
  • No, seems pretty random. For instance, a Marisa and Reimu may sire a Reimu hybrid with a Marisa's hat, etc.
    • Again, it seems pretty random.
  • Overscolding usually puts them in a "fear" state where they scream "scary" all the time and going overboard with abuse can send them into a "buri" state. I've managed to cure both with plenty of time and praise, although it took a while. Having other nicehead yukkuri comfort them also helps.
  • Thanks boom for the answers
The Alice-Patche couple not making little ones might be caused by age
Alice is bigger than Patche, so she might have reached a limit of sort
If it's the case, it's a pity, because silver Youmu is even bigger and I'd be sad to see her die
I don't know the age of any of the adults as I got them from the machine where you pay 100 hearts for a yukkuri
Only a couple out of the 24 pets I have are wild, and even then I wouldn't be able to guess their age, the adults are all from the machine, and the little ones are, well, little ones

about YU's growth, I feed them cake when they are small and they get big very quick. I separate them by size because the big ones seem to die faster than the small ones

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone raising a Dosu-sized yukkuri in-game. The only time I've seen yus of that size is in the wild (forest or beach).

    I tried experimenting with dosus
I wonder if we can get them to make little ones with some other yukkuri

Just saw it. I think I'll try it out myself when I have time.

And btw, dosus can and do have little ones with regular yukkuri.

It does take time because you have to wait until the yu eats all the cakes if you leave the area they go away.
