One Yukkuri Place

Tag discussion

Posted under Tags

I've been wading knee-deep through the tags again and spotted some things that could use fixing. I'm not posting this in the tag request thread because I'm NOT asking for an alias or implication. I'm talking about single-use tags, missing tags, or tags that need some manual disambiguation (which I'm perfectly happy to do myself if nobody else cares), and what people think should be done about them.

So, to begin:

azumanga, azumanga_daioh -> azumanga_daiou - I know nothing about the manga so I don't even know why those two posts are tagged at all.

slime -> slime_(dragon_quest) - We have a tag for that blue blob, so we may as well use it.

orange -> orange_(object) or orange_(fruit) - orange_(character) is taken for the youkai (with all of one post, but still), while orange can't seem to decide if it's a yukkuri or a fruit.

We also have enough posts featuring kagami mochi that I think it merits a tag. Finding them all will be a bitch and a half, but it always features an orange so that's something.

There was some other ones too but I forget.

I support any effort at fixing tags
Though, since this is a western site, I'd use "Azumanga Daioh" or "Yu-Gi-Oh" instead of the version ending in "ou", as that's how they are known on this side of the world
I mean, places like danbooru have a certain userbase so they use the original spelling, but given how yukkuri are fairly niche I'd go with a more "region-friendly" naming (the last name-first name way of naming non-yukkuri charcters isn't really a big deal, since those names are generally consistent between the east and the west)

I personally don't care what the tags are called as long as they're consistent. This is a Danbooru-based site, a lot of stuff came here via Danbooru and a good chunk of our traffic is probably familiar with Danbooru, so I'm just sticking with that by default. We can can always ask dosu to set up an alias.

But tags are for searching, so I'll go with whatever the consensus is among people who actually use them. If anyone here has noticed any tag-related issues, let's hear 'em. I'm trying to get off my butt and pitch in, so you never know, I might just fix it for you. This thread is me asking folks to decide what to fix and how.

The Azumanga one in particular I was asking about 'cause I know nothing about the source material and I was hoping someone around here could confirm those posts should have the tag, and if there's any specifics I should be aware of. I wouldn't want to go getting characters and copyrights mixed up or something and making things worse instead of better.

The first (azumanga) tag, IDK without translation..guessing something relating to the character "Osaka". The second (azumanga_daioh) tag, the Reimu on the wall is "Kamineko", the cat that hates Sakaki. The third (azumanga_daiou) tag has the nekokoneko associated with Sakaki in the GIF and the yellow thing to the right of Domo-kun in the picture of Otaku Miss is Chiyo's "father",.

For sure, the last two go together-and probably the first. I agree with EasyV on the tag to consolidate them under.

Updated

Just asking, is the ges_marisa tag still valid? i know it's used to refer to a particularly scummy marisa in old days and deibu for reimus, but nowadays it seems deibu is also used to refer to any shithead yukkuri too.

If nobody has any objections by my next tagging session (hopefully tonight) I'll also go ahead with orange_(fruit), kagami_mochi and slime_(dragon_quest).

I don't have any objection

Things sure have changed since then
I believe nowadays deibu behaviour is the norm, so if anything we should tag niceheads...

Aaahhh, yes yes... right...
so few niceheads and if there's any, it's usually end up poorly for them.

All done. Found some new oddities:

spear_the_gungnir -> gungnir - which tag should we keep?

mochizuki_ado -family_friendly - which, if any, of these could be considered FF?

I made a bunch of wiki pages: orange, mugetsu, gengetsu, louise, orange_(character) etcetera - should I keep doing that? Anything I should change?

I'm pretty sure ges_marisa is actually a leftover tag for pool #311, from way back when the site didn't have pools. There are a bunch of tags like that floating around, some of which have been repurposed, and the pools aren't always complete... the older stuff is a mess, and I'm not quite brave enough to touch some of it.

We do have nicehead, shithead, bawiza, deibu, awize and batchouli though, so you can use those instead.

Technically speaking, Gungnir is Odin's spear, while Spear the Gungnir is Remilia Scarlet's spell card, so anything involving yukkuri Remilia and a spear-like object should be tagged with spear_the_gungnir
I went ahead and changed the picture tagged gungnir

Aren't all of them FF?
If not, I guess I completely misunderstood what constitutes FF content...

That's nice!
But this makes me wonder: do people actually use the wiki?
There are a number of informations linked directly in the wiki home (e.g. a link to the fanfic google group), but it feels like no one notices

I do >_>

I've been saving the anko translations from the wiki and have read some of the tag explanations like deibu, bawiza, sui etc.

Question, I know yus have at least 2 kind of pregnancy, the stalk and mammalian way, but the tags have both pregnant and mammalian_pregnancy,so do we have to use both in case of posts with a yukkuri with mammalian pregnancy? or the pregnant tag is only used in case of stalk?

I use pregnant whenever there's a pregnant yukkuri (unless I forget), and then add stalk or mammalian accordingly
I'd say mammalian_pregnancy should be used so that it's possible to search for stalkless pregnancies as an alternative to pregnant -stalk
