Some questions on uploading and tagging

Posted under General

Long time reader, first time poster here.

I want to upload some images, including what seems to be a short story. But I'm not sure about pictures order in that story and if all of them really belong to it. Lack of knowing Japanese does not help.

Should I just upload them and hope someone with better knowledge can organise them into pool? Or should I first dump them somewhere and ask someone to take a look?

Also not sure if I can tag them properly. And for author, there's no signature, I can try to guess from artstyle but can be wrong. So the question is, if I am not sure about tag (author or otherwise) is it better to add it or skip it?

It's probably better not to pool anything. Since pools can't be deleted, making one and finding out that the pages are not related isn't the best.
On the other hand, pools can be created anytime, so upload it regardless and then ask for help.
If anything, make sure it's not a duplicate.
Tags are mostly a feeling; I myself don't know what to tag half the times. That said, I still wrote this page: howto:tag.
If you don't know the artist don't bother, it can be added later if found.
You can probably add "unknown artist" but its actual usefulness is debatable.
If you still aren't sure, look at my uploads: I always have doubts so I fall back to some fail-safe tags and hope someone one day will add/remove/change them appropriately.

Nevermind, after carefully searching for duplicates I found out that it's already uploaded.

Thanks for the tips, anyway, will use them in the future.

For tagging, just try to do a search on that tag. We can clean up the tags later. Go by what you see.

How to decide between explicit, questionable and safe ratings?

Everything is questionable on this site.

On the original site (Danbooru): safe = no lewds, questionable = (artistic) nudity, explicit = porn.

But here nobody but me ever bothers to set it, so it's all questionable by default.

Well, yukkuri don't really have the concept of "artistic nudity" and "porn".
I mean, anything involving a penipeni or a mamumamu is pretty much only related to something sexual and "explicit" by Danbooru standards.
If you want to adapt the distinction to abyuse, then we have to define what makes abyuse "questionable".
Sure, the whole idea of abyuse is probably questionable, but when does it become "explicit"?
In the end, the rating on a site like this doesn't really mean anything for non-family-friendly content.
And since the definition of family friendly is pretty strict here, it's easier to simply forget about the rating altogether and leave everything to tags.

Explicit usually involves a lewd human and/or a lewd, bodied yukkuri (by sexy standards).

I've posted 4 days worth of pictures, and they are still unapproved. Not sure if something is wrong with pictures, or is this place just taking it very easy.

It's usually the latter. Remember that Dosu and the mods have lives of their own.

IFAIK poweryoga is the only one who approves things these days (the others all left) and he only visits once a week.

He usually gives good uploaders the "unrestricted uploads" permission after a while though so just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be fine.

I want to post a story that is 113 pages long. Is it better to post all at once, or break into chunks to avoid flooding?

avoid flooding?

There's no such thing.
The real question is: are you physically and mentally ready to upload 113 pages?

Late edit:
Here's an advice.
Upload the first page, create the pool for the comic with the single page you uploaded. Then, for each uploaded page add it to the pool.
This makes pooling easier.
Since it's 113 pages, it should take something like a hour and half, maybe more.

Sounds like a stupid challenge for stupid Deibu to do easy.

I'd probably write a script to do it if you're trying to upload 113 images. No policy against flooding as long as its relevant material, I can't imagine there being enough yukkuri material for this to become a problem anyway.
