Well this looks nice, though ultimately only the change finder is useful in my opinion.
I mean, even if you use the translator to automatize the translation, you still need a file with the whole translation, which is the same as distributing the translated files themselves.
Especially when the lines are still to be translated, it's the same amount of work.

By the way, would it be possible to have a special option in the change finder to output differences in the diff format (maybe to standard output rather than a file)?
My editor has a special mode for that and it's very comfortable looking at changes through that.

Doble post but it's a different matter:
I just thought to run an experiment and discovered that Git (https://git-scm.com/) doesn't choke on the SJIS (though it doesn't really display it unless your locale is also SJIS), and that gave me an idea.
More to come after I run some more experiments.

Ok, here's what I did: https://gitlab.com/vannilla/hakkei-translation

The purpose is:

  • Using Git's diffing, we can see what is new each version (see the README) (Also Gitlab properly displays SJIS which is nice)
  • Non-translators can still see the changes we make and maybe tell us if there's something wrong with the english
  • Translators can do the same with the japanese of course
  • We can collaborate using Gitlab's features, instead of working independently on different versions
  • As long as Gitlab's around the translation will always be available, instead of ending up with dead links
  • If I'm not around anymore to update the thing, it's just a matter of forking the repository

If you want to contribute to this version, you can either use Gitlab or just send me a mail with your changes.

I was wondering, since the archives of the original 1.58 translation are .txts as well, there is now way to use those to fill up more the gaps of translation? Since a lot was translated on that one, and from what I see on github, it feels like they started from scratch.

Kinda wondering if it's possible to copy paste over already translated lines that weren't modified in new patches (the dialogue, not the code line) to ease up the work load?

In theory, yes, in practice, not necessarily.
In these 20 versions old lines might've changed, and comparing the translation with the japanese in the new version is the same as translating the japanese directly.
That's why I started over from scratch.

Heyo, I was just wondering, if someone could be so kind to upload the most recent and most complete original and translated txt files if possible (I think it was Version 1.58 if I´ve read the last pages correctly). Thanks in advance!

Please remember that unless you also have v1.58 of the game, the translation won't work at all.
On the official download page that version isn't available anymore.

Thanks for the reminder, I am aware of that. That's why I need the untranslated file of the version as well. I just want to try something. If it works it works and when not it won't. In any case no harm done.

The one in the OP lets me download it. Darksnow's translation for 1.58.

That´s a little embarrassing. I could have sworn that the link is dead...

Ok, I tried. In conclusion: with a little bit of word and excel magic (especially the iferror and vlookup function) it seems to be possible to make good use of the 1.58 translation! I tested it a little bit (5 Minutes) and it looks like every text passage is where it should be. It´s late already late and I need to go to work tomorrow, so I only processed one file. See for yourself! https://my.mixtape.moe/pfcfrc.txt (its the "text>marisa>aka" file) For the record: every translated part in this file is taken from Darksnow´s translation.

Thanks a lot for your hard work radierer and the same for easy v and the others.

Also is the mohican anon shop a new thing from 1.76? what's his deal?

I didn't try it yet.
Does the girl still show up?

Yeah she's still around, her shop is on the north while mohawk mohican anon shop is on the south, both seem to be pet shops so I dunno what's his deal is since it isn't translated.

That's nice.
A very cursory examination of the mohawk dialogues suggests that those yukkuri are sold for abyuse, so if a yukkuri from the girl's shop is generally well educated, the yukkuri from the mohawk shop are likely to be poor in many aspects.

We've reached version 2.0.
I don't know yet what's new, but I'll announce it here meanwhile.
All the 1.x versions have been deleted...

What's new very briefly:

  • There is an intro where you can select either Marisa or Reimu
  • The "debug" option in the right menu is gone
  • There is a window near the top that does something I don't know
  • Due to SJIS or something, Gitlab broke and the diff can't be seen in the "original" directory. I'll see if I can fix it for the "translated" directory

The issue is fixed for the "translated" directory.
The "original" directory will forever be broken (on Gitlab) for the 2.0 release. Sorry, I wasn't expecting an encoding error.
Summary of the changes to the dialogue files: https://gitlab.com/vannilla/hakkei-translation/commit/7f0cb363971b754bc29083fc581b049cd3a9c5a8

The intro has been translated, so you can enjoy the little story this game has.
