As for me, I can definitely help at least with the more technical side (i.e. dealing with the software.)

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I have a bunch of spare time to donate to the cause. Not technical enough to do more than write the odd shell script, but I can read manuals and follow instructions.

And speaking of the Japanese side of the fandom, IIRC most of our traffic came from there. Is that still true? How much bandwidth is the site still using?

Maybe we should make a pixiv group so we can keep in touch after this site is closed?

I should be reachable on the Google Group until the big G kicks me off entirely. And Discord, but logging into that requires logging into Google, plus sitting around for ten minutes identifying pictures of cars. Sorry for having a dynamic IP address!

Well I guess we’ve had a great run. Over a decade of fun which, for a western site based on an obscure Japanese meme from an obscure japanese Indy game, is mind blowing. I am curious if anyone will be archiving the pics on here?

Damn, this is heartbreaking. Unfortunately, I've never dealt with Ruby and my days of dealing with PHP and MySQL on a rudimentary basis are long behind me. Getting back up to speed would take time and sadly, that's not something I have these days.

We have a Discord channel.

Also, Poweryoga, I'll take up the financial burden, but I have no idea how to actually operate this site. xD

Discord isn't my cup of tea, but anyone got a link?

Yes, archiving would be a good idea imho.

finally decided to log back onto this account even though it sucks.. but this makes me really upset ive loved yukkuri for such a long time, and this website.

i am not good at much so im sad i am not able to help in anyway, but i hope we can find someone who is skilled and can help with our website.

I will miss everyone if the site goes down!!

Sorry lots of comments and me not addressing any of them!

I'd actually like a discord link as well. Never managed to join since I don't use discord actively, so if someone could create an invite link that'd be great.

So anyway, financial concerns is not the reason we're shutting down, but the lack of maintenance is. I'm in the fortunate position of having enough disposable income to maintain the site, thanks for all your offers though. I'm very touched! An alternte-alternative solution is to hire someone to maintain the site. But being in the profession myself, I know the cost is high, to say the least. (Sorry Toawa!)

Biggest cause is inability to stop russian bot attacks due to inability to upgrade the system. Broken features, bookmarklet not working well, limited to 1000 pages(?) of posts, etc. This means closed registrations so no new members and we die a slow death.

@BaronMind Let's talk via e-mail. DM me your e-mail address and we can make a chat and talk about it. While maintaining the site is not involved, this place is in dire need of an upgrade. At the risk of sounding condescending, I'd recommend attempting to setup a new version of Danbooru on a VM and see if you're up to the task. It touches all of the basics you really need to maintain the site. (and if you're into this stuff, it's actually great practice for a future career...)

Danogoat has offered to archive the site. I'll be sending him details this week or next about traffic + current costs. But without active hosting I imagine the cost would be very low.

As for the archives.... I'm not sure, outside of Danogoat offering to host the site. As you can imagine, keeping the translations and comment history is the most important part, while the pictures are precious, they're less so than the community here. I can do a PSQL dump, zip up the website + storage and dump it on a google or mega link somewhere. But the site itself will cease to exist in its current form with comments, etc unless someone else with enough time and knowledge steps up. (or deep enough pockets to hire a contractor to do all the updates)

I've been visiting this site for a little over a year by now, and I've really come to love the little paste-brains. It's a bit depressing to hear that it might get shut down. Also, though I'm not very active on the site, I would also appreciate a link to the discord.

Can you create a yukkuri discord server? or if you had, can you please share the invitation so that we can enter?

I'm pretty new here, if worst comes to worst I will pick up the site. I'm familiar with hosting a few small sites. If anyone more qualified would like to do so please speak up.

Unfortunately every good things comes to an end =(
I wish to thank you guys for your work, your time and your effort. You did it with excellence.
Thanks everyone for posting stuff and translating. You made my days a lot better. All of you. Thank you so much.
I wish I could help keeping the site. Seriously. But I know nothing about those stuff =(
This is the only yukkuri site I know. If it comes to an end, I wish to say I love you all ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I did a lot of bad things when I first came up but I didn't did for bad. I hope its not too late to apologize.
Well. This is it. Lets enjoy the time we have left.
Thanks again everyone. Love you all ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

What the heck? I thought there would just be a change of ownership or something not a total shut down (which is what I assume is meant by winding down).

Did the deal between danogoat break down?

I have some background in programming and stuff but I am really rusty at it as my career has veered off from actual programming so I cannot really apply for admin privileges. I can probably contribute a little financially but I am in a pretty rough spot myself but it looks like there are plenty that can chip in.

Can the site just make do with the current booru? I know there are bot attacks but lately I have not seen any spam or visible suspicious activity except for the server crashing for several days so it should not be TOO bad.

Now, if it so happens that the problem is with the actual server where the site is hosted then that might be a grave cause for concern especially if costs for their repair and maintenance can be expensive. I assume this is not the case and you just pay hosting services from where ever, yes?

Poweryoga shut down sign-ups because every time we open sign-ups, we get Russian bots that spam new threads. He tried to install a Captcha, but that wound up just flat-out crashing the server.

Ideally we'd get a change of ownership. However the pathetic state of things remain unless improvements are made, which requires someone to go in and fix stuff.

We never got around the bots. They're not posting because they can't make new accounts. I can't enable captcha, last time I tried it fucked up servers.

The server crashing is the least of our concerns, honestly. Every server goes down, especially one as crappy as this. There's stuff to restart psql, apache, etc when it goes down so its not too bad. But the time outs when looking at stuff and the site remaining in debug mode (and can't be updated) is the problem.

Thanks for the offer Thomas, but we don't need cyber security honestly. A captcha will ward off most of the bots. Problem is we can't even do that unless someone updates the servers.

If someone wants to keep the site on life support and take over billing... that's fine. But keep in mind money isn't the reason why the site's going to shut down. It's the inability to maintain the site properly.

It's one major crash away from dying unexpectedly, and that just isn't fair to the community. Toawa and I won't be around to resuscitate it next time unfortunately.
