    Short summary:
Winter is harsh for yukkuris, they have to have something to keep them warm, or they'll die. That's why they sometimes steal towels and such to pad their nests.

Anon comes across a family begging to be taken in, and gives them cookies. The koyukkuris are happy, and he talks to the mother Reimu, finding out that she was abandoned because she had kids.

He tells the kos that they should have had their easy place, instead of suffering in the elements. The mother understands his meaning: if she hadn't disobeyed her owner by having kos, they wouldn't be in this situation.

Because of that, she starts crying. The kos, not understanding, do their best to comfort their mother. But their words of kindness only wound the mother even more.

Anon thinks that this family will probably die over the winter, unable to procure padding, and dying in the cold.

"Reimu, you have such good little ones. Let them take it really easy, and raise them up well."

The kos promise their mother they will grow up well and let her take it easy, and the mother continues to cry. She knows they won't grow up, they won't live, because they'll die in the cold.

She understands, because she broke her promise with her owner, this happened. She might have been allowed to have children if she had just kept her word, and then those children would grow up to be nice and easy yukkuris.

Everything now is due to Reimu's fault. She can only cry and apologize.

    END

Doesn't seem like the Anon took them in.

    Nell

Well, if Reimu couldn't learn the first time, no reason to think she could learn the second time around. Best to just let her drift out of existence.

    Thanks yet again, Wrathkal!

The best summary ever, for any story.

I really don't get these stories where the owners just throw out what is otherwise a very nice head just for refreshing. Most humans are unable to keep celibate either, so it doesn't seem very reasonable to hold a yukkuri to a higher standard than most humans hold themselves. >_>

Also, why not just kill the little ones and conceive of some excuse? It's not like it's difficult to trick yukkuris. Put the mother to sleep with some lemonade and kill the babies, and then when she wakes up tell her the babies wandered off and you couldn't find them.

Or secretly inject the babies with water when the mother isn't looking to induce diahhrea.

Or put on a hat so the mother perceives you as someone else, and kill the babies.

Or hell, just straight up kill the babies in front of her and tell her that if she has any more babies you will kill them.

And if the mother gets depressed, just dose her up with some candy.

I just don't see why people throw their pets out if they refresh. I guess it makes for a nice story though.

First of All, PETS, remember they are PETS that's they key word in the scenario.

Because they are monster fauna pets, it's kinda how you don't want your pet to make babies, but this time your pet speaks the language and you have some reasonable expetations it would understand that you may not have the money to taking care of extra mouths, the space or the patience for that (because it's not like the pet yu will take full care of them).

And killing them for that depends, some owners do it, since the yu's many times becomes very scummy after making babies (even more if the partner is some random stray they picked up), but some dont' feel like killing them, ironically because of them being nice heads or the pet owner not liking the idea of killing them but still angry enough to not send them to a shelter, reason why they are throw out.

In all seriousness, if we use your logic of comparing it with a human scenario, this would be like you have 1 or 2 freeloaders you are taking care off, and they decide to fuck around and make babies that YOU will have to take care of and pay their expenses for even if you told them there is no money and room for that, not exactly fair for the guy paying the bills right?

Sorry, you've misunderstood my point a little, JIE D:

Lemmie try to clarify my stance and how I feel about yukkuris in general. I don't believe fairness enters into it. I'm not debating that they are pets either, or are functionally slaves that have no rights. I'm not a yukkuri lover, you know. My view on animal husbandry and animal rights is probably harsher than even your own. :P

Believe me when I say that I see no distinction between actual animals and yukkuris. The state of 'having no rights' which you ascribe to yukkuris due to their being monster fauna is already the default state I ascribe to all animals. I believe that a pet owner should have absolute ownership of their pet. The right to starve it, beat it, torture it, kill it, whatever. I don't do such things myself, because I have an emotional attachment to my pets and as such I'd like them to be happy and lead satisfied lives, but I have no problems with other people who do such things.

What I am saying is this:

Humans can't be realistically held to 100% celibacy. Of the people that try to hold to 100% celibacy, the majority of them fail (look at Catholic priests). Yukkuris are even more creatures of appetites than humans, so there is no way anyone can logically expect them to remain celibate, regardless of if they understand language. How many humans are there that understand intellectually that they aren't in the financial situation to support children, and then go ahead and have children anyway?

If the owner throws out the yukkuri and the babies, that's a death sentence for all of them. Even if it's not a death sentence it means a life of uneasiness for all the yukkuris. Especially terrible for a pet yukkuri because unlike yukkuris that have been born wild, they have experienced the pampering of pet life. If the owner supposedly loves the pet and has any kind of emotional attachment or regard for them, then they should understand that throwing them out is worse than killing them outright.

But if you kill the babies and keep the parent, only the babies die. If you want to be merciful or whatever you can crush them quickly or even put them to sleep with lemonade before killing them, (although personally I think the best way is to torture the babies to death in front of the parent, so the parent understands the uneasiness that awaits its future babies should it have more) and the parent can go on taking it easy as a pet after the initial period of uneasiness after the death of the babies.

Sure they can. Death sentence as a consequence works wonders.

You're just trying to reconcile the idea of "yukkuris DO learn" with "humans should be benevolent iron-fisted dictators". The problem is that your idea is even more unrealistic than the idea of 100% celibacy.

100% celibacy doesn't 'work' because its imposed with no consequences. The moment you put an automatic gun-mounted celibacy-detecting camera in every church, I guarantee you that the rate of broken celibacy vows would crash to 0%.

Begone with you, troll. I'm trying to have a legitimate conversation with JIE here.

It's perplexing why they can't properly kill the yukkuri before disposing. Strays are treated like walking trash after all.
Must be to contribute in sustaining stray populations.

Or they could just give it to their abyuser neighbour who will gladly do the job.

Just because some people do it that doesn't mean people won't chastize, criticize or punish for it, it's actually a reasonable response to frown the questionable acts even if "some people do it often", this can be applied with yukkuris, specially since many yu's do understand the situation and are shown not having babies unless allowed. Just because it's a possible outcome and because people do it, that won't stop people to frown at it if they percieve it as wrong.

Of course here is the deal, with yukkuris, throwing them off is either a death sentence for nice yu's as you said, or making the city's ambience worse by adding another shithead to the stray numbers, but a lot of the people in thie stories act more by emotion than anything (aided by the legal limbo yu's are at.).
I personally think that you're right about throwing them off being a bad idea, either you kill the shithead, send the scum to the factory or give the nicehead to adoption/shelter.

And about my stand on animals and pets, being honest, as a pet owner and liking animals in general (just being pragmatic about them in some scenarios.) I'm rather mellow in general, I'm not harsh on them, If anything I'm just harsh at the fictional Yu's, lol maybe I'm just yucinical =P.
Something for sure, I would NEVER approve of applying the yukkuri treatment logic on real life creatures for obvious reasons, kinda how one can have fun with Warhammer 40k but be horrified if something like the stuff in those games happened in real life.

You're the one who claimed that 100% celibacy is unrealistic, yet there are countless recorded examples throughout history of such cases.

Calling fallacies is not being a troll.

That is true. But much like humans who remain celibate for whatever idealogical reasons, those yukkuris are in the super-minority. The vast majority of pets who are told not to reproduce will still reproduce. It just seems to me that, given the general shortcomings of the yukkuri race regarding self-dicipline (spelling), it would be a simpler solution to just kill the babies instead of disposing of the parent altogether.

    and other things

On being pragmatic about pets, I'm kind of curious about your views. Near as I can tell, yukkuris have something resembling human pride, and it's from that which all the scummish behavior flows. Maybe it's the expression of that empty pride which causes you to be harsh towards them?

Yea, okay dude. Either trolling, doesn't understand how percents work, or doesn't know what 'majority' means. Still 0/10.

Not pragmatic about pets, but about animals, as in I won't boo hoo for necessary kills if animals becomes too dangerous for humans or is an invasive species.

With Pets I'm mellow, I rarely disicipline, but being honest I turn out rather lucky with my dogs being fast learners.

Pretty much, since day 1 I said it, I HATE smugsnakes and Yukkuris in general tend to be smugsnakes, the worst kind of it, you know, the ones with empty pride and baseless arrogancy that when time comes to "prove their superiority" they have nothing but empty words. So yeah, you hit the bullseye on that one.

Though I think we should end this discussion here -___-U not exactly the best place to chat about personal stuff.

if it was me i wouldn't take them in, but i would help them servive. I'd brind them to my back yard give them a box and some blankets, give them some basic food stuff i'd pull out of the trash. and than check on them every so often.
