This plant is closely related to and sometimes treated as a sub-species of Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum). In fact it produces a very small amount of morphine alkaloids.
The first one lack the alkaloids needed to make opium, so it's safe.
Poppies are consumable, and not all of them contain enough morphine content to be intoxicating.
The leaves are edible. The seeds are used as seasoning and can be extracted for cooking oil. Concentration of the morphine is in the flower bud's latex. These are dried and concentrated to make heroins. The rest of the plant doesn't have enough morphine for drug making.
But yukkuri are smaller than human, so they would have lower tolerance. Multiplied with their selective weaknesses.
Considering how moldy that ko-reimu is, opium might be the best thing for it.
...they closely resemble a poisonous plant so remember the color, shape and so on well.Liddle oone!?
