some artists describe mold giving off a dull and numbing pain that erodes away at the senses (Boshiherondasu), while others state that they cause excruciating pain enough to keep the victim wide awake and conscious, but not sufficient to drive them crazy and terminate their ego to end their suffering (most notably Big.g). I wonder what would the canon be. As for humans, well I've never contracted any fungi-based diseases before, but I heard it's itchy :thonking:

The canon is it depends on the author. What is established though is that mister mold makes yukkuri not take it easy that they die if untreated.

-__- No atheletes foot? Smelly nethers? You must not do a lot of sports or physical activity if you have never experienced this even once.

When I was younger, I had both on separate occasions. They were cured by herbal medicines and anti-fungal cream. The cream had the side effect of making you squirm because when you sweat in your nethers, the area becomes slick. The herbal medicinal wash is pretty good though.

Well, you can only expect so much from a gamer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would assume, in my personal opinion, that unless the mold saps the nutrients out of them, it would be more of a symbiotic relationship. The only thing that could possibly cause them to die is if the mold can reach their core, but the problem with any idea of this mold killing them from the inside is that once it gets caught in their paste, it technically digests. I mean, if you want to get real scientific about this, I'd assume that after a while, they could reach a type of relationship where it'd be possible for them to maybe live off of photosynthesis.

Heck, in my story, I haven't reached that point, but my headcanon for Yuuka was going to be that her hair is actually a plant that helps her survive via photosynthesis -- thus, all she needs is water to live.

Don't fungi actually not possess chloroplasts, so they can't photosynthesize and have to rely on external sources of nutrition to thrive? So all fungi are either saprophytic or heterotrophic, and they drain the nutritions out of a yukkuri's paste and eventually, core, killing it in the process.

Again, paste churn = automatic digestion. Roots wouldn't be able to seep much further than the surface.

Remember, convenient science is at work here. As long as the fungi cause excruciating pain, its roots can progress into the paste with no fear of digestion :^)

:P Careful which way the convenience swings.

it's called CONVENIENT science for a purpose you know :p

So the accompanying pain plus the slow drain of nutrients slows paste circulation to a trickle. Not only does this make the yukkuri more lethargic, but the roots now have a chance to expand without being ripped apart and digested. Fungus keeps spreading until it finally hits the core, then the yukkuri expires and liquefies into a putrid soup.

We're halfway there with medically-induced superbugs.
