Yep. Self-awareness is all over the place, depending upon artist. Sometimes it's shown that yus don't even "feel" pain until they see paste leaking from themselves. So, it's not hard to imagine them unable to see themselves as anything but "cyute" or would delude themselves into disbelieving disfigurement.
