Yeah, but the problem is, they can't and won't understand the concept of farming. Heck, even some of us, humans, also have some problems when talking about vegetable, seed, fertiliser,... And you cannot keep growing one type of plant, and surely they can't understand the idea of crop rotation, all of that will no sooner than later destroy the soil. And even then, there is a really high chance that all of their buds will end up in their stomach (or some other yukkuris).
If you want them to grow vegetables on their own, better just make them your helper/subordinate/slave and give them some food after they finish all of the tasks you give them. If they are smart, they will know that better just stick to humans and do what they say instead of confronting them. Yes, those things are terrible at jobs requiring intelligence or precision, but if we talk about labour in general, they are a significant force with little to no harm. If they dare to eat food, perfect, now you've got lots of fertiliser for your farm. If they want better working conditions, just give them some sweet sweet and bam, problem solved. If there is an accident, don't worry, just replace it with a new one and give those remaining a little sweet sweet and they will forget immediately. And you don't have to buy insurance for those.
Yukkuri don't need to perform industrial-sized farming. They can grow small farms, and even mostly use tubers. They also hunt bugs, so farming crops wouldn't be the only method of food.

Well, naturally, the herd of yukkuri is about two or three hundred and with their unlimited greed about eating, I'm pretty sure that they cannot subsist with only stuff growing from small farms, so if they really want to grow and make food, there are only two options: either make a big farm to grow food or kill some yukkuri, and you already knew what they gonna choose.
Lots of anko/story I have read is about the school of yukkuri that is so crowded that even a big forest is slowly but surely be destroyed by them, so humans have to exterminate them before the point of no return. Yeah I agree that they also eat bugs, but even then, bugs are not easy to find, especially when the herb is big with lots of "ahem" hunters, and not all of them can catch a flying/moving target, so raid farm is the only option, since they didn't and wouldn't eat things that didn't appetize to them, like leaf, grass, root, etc.
Edit: my point is: yukkuri that can grow their own food, although nice on paper, is unlikely to happen in real life, especially that it violates their own motto: "take it easy", because, you know, doing farming stuff is not easy in their mind. True that some of them (especially smarter yukkuri like Patchy), knew that the only way to really "take it easy" is working, but not all of them are smart like that, heck, if Patchy dare to talk about this, they gonna yell at her for blasphemous.
At least in the NoAbuseverse, this clan recently discovered farming.
I've had this story stuck in my head for years called 'Patchouli of the City and Alice of the Forest', but most of the jokes in it are visual and I'm terrible at drawing. I've been meaning to practice while stuck in lockdown, but that fell through.
