M8, physics doesn't work like that. When Deibu hit Marisa, she was deccelerating into a cushy manju ball. When Marisa hit the wall, he was deccelerating into a hard glass panel, which entails far higher g-forces and thus damage.
Sure, they were obnoxious customers, and acted poorly.

Animals do not have the same rights as humans, and should not expect the treatment as 'just a shitty customer'. Strays can already be killed without any consequence whatsoever, that anon bothered to serve them was already going beyond his responsibilities. That the yukkuris had money is irrelevant, since there is nothing stopping humans from killing them and taking all that money (which the shitheads likely stole anyays).

I dunno, maybe I'm just too 'close' to this kind of story, since I see the Marisa and feel like it's someone I know who made similar decisions, and had the same (sort-of) bad ending.
I know if I found her, I'd have taken her in. Simple way to determine if she was a gold badge: Look at her hat. Is there a rip? If yes: someone ripped her badge off of her hat.
Besides that, there are ways to tell.
The decision was extremely bad and definitely deserved. Since the Marisa prioritised his own comfort (little ones) over those of his master's.
