I think you're getting a little too far ahead of the story. On the other hand, that (meaning Marisa guilty over imagining what happened to her family, then going out on a stroll relieves her stress by unknowingly making her relatives "take the big easy forever") would make what happens next even more ironic.
If the translation proves my theory right, it would be a ironic cycle reaching it's end.
To paraphrase another commenter, this is the sort of epic karma (the jury's still out if there's justice involved, but hey) that's usually told in classic stories.

In fact, I believe this might be a criticism on the badge system--everyone automatically assumes that a badged yukkuri signifies a "good" yukkuri. In a way, yes, but in the sense on how convenient they are to humans.
