Necrobumping

Posted under General

That seems to be a problem lately. I wonder if there's any way to grey out the post button after a certain period of time, but keep the "post without bumping" feature intact so people can, well, post without bumping old stuff to the top of the comments.

It would probably require changing the codes.

I'd prefer having the flags reversed for new members for like a week. That way all their posts are "no bump" by default. They can't put on excuse like "I don't notice the checkbox"

If they comment on new and active picture, we can still see the post bumped up by more sensible members, or when checking the picture itself.

As far as I see, most of the time necrobumping are done by new members who are too lost in euphoria of finding this fandom, they browse back to the old picture and feel like they need to comment on everything.

That, or the types that see it's more important to make themselves known by the community by flooding the comments rather take it easy and enjoy the works.

The occasional bump is fine. Serial bumping is a problem though, especially the lack of constructive/contributing comments to go with it.

I'm surprised there's no tweak similar to what Danbooru's done (limit bumping comments to 2 per hour for basic members, which deters most except the most dedicated of necros--and those guys get banned off the site in short order, anyway).

I upped the limit because I always felt 2 comments per hour is extremely restrictive, especially for new members that want to actually participate. Given our fairly inactive community I don't mind necro bumping all the much as long as its not over the top.

as usual if its over the top let me know.

Honestly. When it comes to necrobumping, I don't mind it here. My thoughts are if someone is browsing thru old images and wants to comment on them, what's the harm? It just brings up an old image and idm seeing older things again every so often. Kinda nostalgic. Were this a purely text forum, I'd be against it but as it's an image board I don't see the harm here.

As long as it doesn't go out of hand, I can still take it easy with the necrobumping. Dosu, if possible, I think a poll about necrobump regulations should be set up for a limited time. Do you agree?

This is usually the crux of the matter. Sometimes new members come on and just start raging at the pictures.

On the other extreme, you have people engaging in text wall battles with people haven't been on for years.

I don't mind it if it isn't done too often. Once in a while, something interesting gets said over a forgotten pool.

Not meaning to (ironically) necrobump here, but, as many of you know, we have a serial necrobumping problem, especially with the pointless comments instead of something interesting regarding old posts. I understand that pro-abyuse comments are allowed on posts of such depiction, but the content of the serial necrobumper's comments are so similar to those belonging to a banned account.

Updated

A maybe good idea would be to add a link above the "post a new comment" link on posts, saying something along the lines of "Before commenting read the rules", which leads to a page containing the comment section of the terms of service, with the anti-necrobump rule added
For that rule, I suggest something like "Before writing a comment, make sure the image is less than X months old. You can comment on old images only if your comment adds something significant to it. As a rule of thumb, if your comment is not a translation or a summary of the story depicted in the page, you can't comment on old images"
It's a bit exaggerated, but sensible people already know that necrobump is bad without a good reason, and everyone else can be warned/banned accordingly without complains, since those are the rules

I'd argue that serial necrobumping is already covered in the rules: "You will comment with respect towards the rest of the community." Regarding the case we all can see recently, neither mass necrobumping nor acting like an edgy 13-year old can be considered respectful.

I think the rules are fine, for the reasons Poweryoga said above. I'll trust the admin's judgement in this matter

Fair enough.

I'm keeping an eye on this as usual. I know necrobumping is annoying but quite frankly, we don't have a lot of discussion going on anyway and the necro bumping dies down after a day or 2.

Yeah. Yukkuris don't get a lot of new content and I remember when I first discovered yukkuris, I went on a posting spree as well. Regardless I'll keep an eye on it, I lurk more often than post these days.

This.

It's so easy to binge on pools when starting out. Besides, it's always nice to have another member around that can take it easy with us.
