One Yukkuri Place

Yukkuri board game

Posted under General

I just had the idea to create a yukkuri-themed board game and would like to hear your suggestions. A card game would do as well.
I thought of a simple game where several players take turns throwing dice to determine movement and moving their game pieces along a set course (maybe branching?).
Ideally, you'll want the pieces that look like tiny yukkuri. It's a bit of effort, but probably well worth it when you plan on playing a yukkuri board game.
Along the way, they would encounter game events that reference yukkuri lore, like Anon who wants to squash the yukkuri, rapers who want to refresh etc.
The goal would be either to simply reach the end of the course or to gather enough sweet-sweets; so the background could be yukkuris looking for a new home or 'hunting'.

Thoughts?

Suggestions:
Two separate areas: Mountain & Town. (PETY might abduct pet yukkuris to set them out in the wild, people may irresponsibly bring wild yukkuris into town)

Rolling of dice to determine survival of events

Gaining of 'cards' which grant modifiers to dice rolls e.g. 'Too Much Munch-munch' affects events that require physical abilities negatively.

Goals:
Either amass a certain amount of food, or become a good pet yukkuri. Possible to game over by starvation

Ask /tg/. Given you'll get a D20 RPG ruleset rather than an actual board game, but they'll get shit done nonetheless.

/tg/ getting shit done? Sure, but not in the way you seem to hope. If your plan to make a game is just "get /tg/ to do it for you," you deserve what you get (nothing).

And more likely you'll get people suggesting Dark Heresy instead of D20 (unless that one guy starts pimping his ultra realistic d20 homebrew again) because if Adeptus Evangelion used DH, it must be good! That, or like all things Touhou on /tg/, bad things will happen.

For a very simple race-to-the-end kind of board game, you could use the concept of surviving various perils and living long enough to reach the goal of becoming a great, wise Dosu.

Granted, that would involve:

1) Ignoring the fanon that Dosus are born, not made, in favor of the (less-popular?) fanon that any yukkuri that lives long enough can grow up to be a Dosu.

2) Letting any kind of yukkuri become a Dosu--usually, you mostly see Dosu Marisas, but you'd probably want the game pieces to be a variety of types (Reimu, Marisa, Alice, Patchouli...)

3) If you want anyone to actually _finish_ the game, having the obstacles be non-fatal--"You are attacked by a Raper. Abort your stalks and go back 5 spaces to recover," not "You are attacked by a Raper. You die. Game over."

It might also be fun to divide the board up into stages--say, the first stage has events that might occur to a baby/koyukkuri, then once you reach a certain point, you stay there until you roll doubles, representing "find a mate," and then you enter a stage with events that could occur to an adult yukkuri with a family ("Your children turn out to be scum. They meet with JUSTICE. Go back 10 spaces and try again.") The third stage is, I don't know, maybe you're now the head of a clan, with all the attendant problems.

Or you could have the main path be for a stray yukkuri, and then if you're lucky, you could get adopted and move onto a parallel path for a pet yukkuri--but on that path, there are spaces/cards that would bump you back onto the "stray" path. ("Your owner turns out to be drawn by Ayazou. Run for your life and go back to STRAY.")

Isn't this the other way around?

I lol'ed. Some meta humor would be great, if at least to keep the game lighthearted and not fall into the stupid GRIMDARK trap that affects game design.

I've got half-assed, drunken notes for a Yukkuri RPG lying around here somewhere. Complete with randomly generated characters via the Adjective (descriptor)-Noun ("profession")-Type (type) format, e.g. "Uneasy Idol Patchouli."

Nothing else written down beyond rough rules for playing as a ko and tracking food/treasures.

I'm being facetious of course

Dark Heresy would be relevant for bodied yukkuri in particular. Dem crit tables.

You might want to look into Bunnies & Barrows then, seeing how it has a rather similiar premise:

My bad, its hard to tell sometimes. Especially after seeing threads on /tg/ amounting to "remember X why wasn't it finished we should finish it lets make a thread to talk about finishing it-"

Not a bad choice, but its not perfect. I prefer From Another Time Another Land; it has much more realistic critical tables.

Hm...never heard of this one. I was looking to get inspiration from "Kobolds Ate My Baby," despite having never actually read/played the game.
