A translation conundrum

Posted under General

Was curious as to everyone's take on this.

If the author of a piece made what is clearly a typo or a continunity error in their story, that is, the translator is 100% sure that it's not a misunderstanding or a misinterpretation, should the translator correct the typo/continunity error in the translation?

Or should the translator just translate the piece as it is, error included?

As for the typo, as long as you are 100% sure it's just a typo I'd say it's reasonable to correct.
If it's any other kind of error it should stay so that the translation it's the closest possible to the original.
