On "fluffies"

Posted under General

So a recent phenomenon has caught my gaze. Apparently, there's a trend in the MLP fandom known as "fluffies" that, I think, warrants OYP's attention.

People have compared touhou and MLP before, but the similrities here are striking.

Fluffies are ultra-cute caricatures of mlp ponies. They are smaler, stubbier, and dumber. They're so dumb they manage to kill themselves performing basic survival tasks. Their speech is slurred, and they communicae in toddler-like half sentences and catchphrases (munch munch, happiness!) Their memory is incredibly short.

Oh, and people abuse the everloving shit out of them, in ways that rival even kiriraitaa.

And those people are called: "idiots".

Comparing touhou to that crappy children's show is like comparing the Zelda series to carebears. Fuck you, you know what I mean. Yeah, you, the guy typing a smartass retort to that analogy.

"lolololo they both have mythological creatures in them so they're both the same trololololo"

No.

No.

Not disagreeing. I was just statin' what I hears.

It's not even a recent phenomenon.

Ever heard of panda Meiling?

Or the miniKeine?

Or the kodama-ized Touhou cast?

Or even outside the Touhou fandom: the fluffy Pokemon?

It's been around for a long time now.

Are Fluffies filled with delicious dessert products? :D

No, they are modified/mutant Ponies with notorious lesser intelligence, so they are made of the same thing Ponies are made, you know proper animal stuff instead of some variation of pastrie.

Another thing that makes them different from yukkuris is that fluffies don't have that baseless arrogance or extremely hardheaded malice that many yukkuris have, fluffies are only too dumb to live at best, but not assholes or plainly evil like our magical talking pastries.

Now My Thoughts about this whole thing:

Outside of awknowledging their existence, OYP has nothing to do with them, our thing is to deal with the magical pastries that 7 of 10 times are plainly wicked and stupid, not deal with the mutant "UGUU" ponies that are too dumb to live but lack any malice.

Most of them are Touhou related. In any case, you are free to make One Fluffy Place...

So the whole abusing cute, innocent creatures extends beyond yukkuridom?

I also remember from a couple years ago there was some mini-meme/trolling material called "berryboy" which was a baby blueberry who got severely abused too.

Maybe there is a primordial part of our brain that likes seeing cute things suffer? But then again, while I love yukkuri abuse, I am sickened by real-life animal abuse.

YukkurisMustDie

There were also those famous Teletubbies, Barney, Pokemon and similar Torture or Abuse works back in the 90's.

I think it's more about people wanting to harm things that annoy them badly and enjoy a bit of "itchy & scratchy" like black comedy from them. Kinda how in violent video games players are willing to go into a slaughter for lulz, or how they maybe less tolerant with annoying characters and a few moments later they put a bullet in their brains.

Of course yu's being talking pastries instead of proper animals help a lot for the fandom to be big, since I believe people may end up seeing yu's deaths as the same as the death of the talking food from "annoying orange". Doesn't help that many of the yu's are as annoying as the very Annoying Orange but with a touch of arrogant evil for a great deal of them.

I actually haven't, though I am aware of jissouseki.
As far as I am aware, Jissouseki, yukkuri and "fluffy ponies" are the only ones particularly prone to gruesome deaths.

No thanks, I'm not really partial to MLP shit, I am just endlessly intrigued by drawing parallels. For instance, storyboard writers for children's shows are notorious for "jamming" (as in the musical sense) storyboards filled with every kind of debauchery imaginable as a way of letting off steam in between making the real ones. There's a Rugrats one still floating around the net.

Perhaps it's our brains telling us we're tired of cutebright happy stuff, perhaps there's some crossover in our brains between the parts that remember Barney and the parts that remember SAW. Hell, maybe we just love the shit out of imaginary violence. Just speculating fascinates me.

Happy tree friends, Yukkuri, guro... the choice is neverending!
@YukkurisMustDie: I believe that I've already written something in the past about that, so I'll keep it short.

1 yes, all humans definitively enjoy suffering to some extent, however there are so many exceptions and variations to estabilish a sort of common norm
The very first 4 'evidences' that come in my mind:
-Childhood games usually end up with 'killing' enemies, 'fighting' etc.
-We are carnivores.
-There are gigabytes on youtube about people falling and getting hurt that are supposed to make the viewer laugh - and they work.
-We are able to theorize things like the torture and trasversal vengeance, which are unknown to the majority of the animals.
-Sex and violence generally mix well togheter.

2 modern society doesn't particularly like the notion of violence, so (well, rightfully) they try to redirect it towards particular locations like the gym or the stadium, or symbols like the villains in the movies.

3 this necessary compromise however doesn't necessarly satisfy everyone so we get some tasty things on the net ^^

Yep, there are parallels and I think it's not a cohincidence.

However more than being tired of cute stuff I think that yukkuris are, in this case, a symbol of something else.
But I guess that talking about that would be A) too much subjective since I can't read in your minds and B) too DEEP for a site whose purpose seems to be different ^^

Edit: oh, however I never got this ponies mania, nor even the abuse.
I know it could be strange coming from an OYP user, but they seem too childlike.
Double standards!

This is a great Truth, we love our imaginary violence, many times our imaginary violence helps us to release stress or negativity in a healthy and non harmful way, at least as long as you remember that imaginary violence is that, and that such levels of violence have no place in real life.

Anon kun

What is childlike? the ponnies? the fluffies?

If it's the latter, well, I can agree that they seem so, but also I disagree that it's double standars, Yukkuris may be simplistic and appear childish, but we have to remember that many of their actions and attitudes aren't childlike, they are only very simplistic cute critters, so even in their darkest forms they may appear childlike.

It's not like we don't have "grown ups" acting cutesy or child like for the sake of being seen cute or thinking it would earn them popularity.

I didn't know MLP had danmaku in it.

So, what exactly are those parallels?

That does sound like yukkuris. Or jissouseki. Or countless other parody characters.

I think a lot of us here don't actually like guro, but somehow yukkuris being pastries/filled with food actually make it ok.

Call it twisted logic if you will, but I personally don't actually care much for jissou abuse, much less MLP and real guro. I certainly don't speak for those here that do like their imaginary abuse in all way shape and form though. :)

If you don't sugar coat it, most people don't have the stomach for guro.

That said, it takes a special mindset and mentality to create guro works in the first place.

I agree with this because I'm one of those, I would drop the fad if yukkuris became proper flesh and skin creatures, instead of talking foodstuff that in many cases are epic assholes or plainly wicked, they are the only exception I have to anything related to guro and only because of their composition.

It's like Naughty Bear and Manhunt, technically both games are the same thing, but you would be surprised how many people like naughty bear more, even if Naughty Bear is as violent, if not more than Manhunt, the difference? the bears don't bleed or spill guts, only have fluff flying around when you kill them. Hell I had meet people who were squicked by Manhunt but were fine with Naughty Bear.
