First of all, I prefer bodied yukkuris, mainly because their human shape garners much more of my empathy. As far as species go, I like predatory species like remilias. The marisas are by far my least favorite, with the reimus coming in a close second.
I think the ideal pet would be a koishi reconditioned for predatory behavior. Predation comes naturally to remilias, flandres and letties, but you can teach any species to eat other yukes. Just feed it a few of the ubiquitous species so that it acquires the taste. While koishis aren’t as rugged, their subconscious hiding in plain sight abilities would make for an excellent stealth predator.

I don't really have a preference, but if I had to choose, I'd go with yukkuri based on the newer games.

My favorite Canon Yu is prolly Youmu, the speaking variety.
Least favorite is savior Marisa from Hy's story. Can't stand karma houdinis.
