Hybrids should be rare. I've played with the Sim for months now and never felt hybrids were somehow impossible to see in regular play (some were more likely to show up but if the numbers are the same then it was just luck).

And I do agree with Betsy. A petting option should be available. It shouldn't be too hard, petting should trigger a "rub-rub" reaction and lower stress a bit.

Yeah Id like a petting action, i dont think it could reduce stress though, as stress is calculated per tick and based only on bodycount afaik :/ Currently im just setting up the hybrids from the modded version, though alot of them are missing sprites it seems. I'll mess around with various hybrid counts while I work and figure something out.

currently, Remilia and patchoulli have no hybrids. I also really want to implement Meling so we can have Patchlings. (also, the dialog is really easy Jao-n!)

Are you trying to generate the jar file using eclipse?
Does it give you any error messages?
I'll try to compile it if you send me the code.

I've tried via eclipse and via command line, no errors are generated, but it hangs right before the add yukkuri popup should appear and the background never generates.

Oh, I added the requested petting tool!

odds for hybrids were doubled from 2% to 4%, please tell me how much more or less common you would like it after trying this version! Personally, I like around 10-15%

I tried to run SimYukkurinew.jar and it printed this on the console:

I checked Remilia.java. The game is trying to load the Remilia sprites from "images/Remilia/", but that folder doesn't exist.

It should work if you change line #31 in Remilia.java to:

final String path = "images/remilia/";

Edit: I didn't actually compile it, I just renamed the remilia folder inside SimYukkurinew.jar.

When I try to compile SimYukkuri.java I get 100 errors like this one:

SimYukkuri.java:219: error: unmappable character for encoding UTF8

Eh, that didn't seem to change anything for me, I never got that error either though. It still hangs on launch for me :/

EDIT I also don't get any of those errors about unmappable characters, try using a japanese locale? I removed all the unmappable characters before, everything thats left displays properly for me

Might as well add the hybrids to the 'add yukkuri' menu already.

Oh, there's should be for barrier, clear and not-clear. So for clear, yukkuris can see past, for an clear, yukkuri's can't see past. Also, there's could be badges? And for food garbage? :'D

Hmm, What purpose would having different barriers serve? As it is, theres no parameter for viewblocking and regardless of whether they could see across or not, it wouldn't alter interactions since their wanderings are more or less random.

I wouldn't mind adding garbage food, would it basically be food that results in lowered happiness and a "munch munch, disgusting!" response, but without causing the poison or damage effects from bitter and hot? If so, then it would be very very simple to add.

How would you see badges implemented?

If we want jao-n! then we need the appropriate sprites, adding the actual code is very simple then. Of course, in the future, species specific code is planned.

If scum/rude sense a toy, they will move towards it. If anyone sense food while hungry, they will move towards it.
Out of the top of my head, doesn't sound random enough to not justify a barrier that blocks view.

Ok, making a laundry list:

- Remilia: Exciting, Refreshed, Crushed, Crushed2 (no accessory)

- Patchy and Remi hybrids.

- Garbage food sprite.

- Maybe a badge. Should the badge be separate, as in another sprite layer, or placed directly on the accesory sprite using an alternate version?

- If I get around to it, Meiling.

Also, I think badges would be implemented as a way to reward a particular yukkuri for good behavior. While I understand that the ramifications of this might be difficult to code, and as such, badges should be in a rather far away release, it would be nice to have a badged yukkuri exerting some sort of influence around it. For instance, nicehead Marisas would look to it in awe and inspiration, while shithead Reimus would try to force everyone's attention on them. Badges, as general principle, could share characteristics with a Dosu-yukkuri type. Still, wishful thinking.

More realistically, adding garbage would be fantastic, even more so if it has a tiny chance of removing the "rude" flag. Like a punishment of sorts. I'll work on a garbage food sprite for implementation. And it would be nice to see the burnt feet and slashing hair options restored: I miss my abyuse.

Hmm, Id say place it on the accessory sprite as an alternate version, being able to just swap images, rather than have to position them, makes things quicker on my end.

As far as burning etc, these are one of the main things I plan on readding, though i dont actually remember anything involving hair shaving, please link me a copy that has that in it so I can take a look at how it was implemented? Otherwise, it would require new sprites for every yu, I'm thinking the easiest way would be to just swap the body sprite, this way each yu can have its own version.

I already retreived the sprites for burning, im just planning the code for that atm. Adding a tool was far, far easier than adding an entire new item to the main menu, so thats the route I'd like to take wherever possible.

As far as barriers go, yu's already see across barriers , but after colliding with the barriers for a set amount of time (which is based on rudeness etc) then the yu will wander away randomly for a few seconds, this generally brings it within range of a different object/interaction, resulting in it effectively forgetting about the object on the other side of the barrier. Effectively, all current barriers ARE clear.

Also, I LOVE Sakuya, so I'd really like to add her, but I want to make sure I can do her justice, so I plan on fleshing out the interactions between existing yu's before going crazy on adding more. For example, I want to add in refreshing preferences, so marisas prefer reimus a little, alices don't care, and patchy's prefer marisas a little, and reimus also prefer marisas. remy, idk.

So if you added more species down the line what are the most common after Marisa, Reimu, Alice, and Patchoulli? Chen and Meiling? Or does it just kinda fall apart and everything else is rare?

Oh and as for using money, perhaps you could use to it to purchase rare or hybrid species?
