It's like telling kids not to follow strangers or hug a rat. The action of doing not hug the rat and the action of doing not follow the stranger begins the trend of behaviour reinforcement.
The kid has the choice of killing manjus or let himself get beaten up everyday by all his classmates. Choice is pretty obvious.
@rootbeer Basically the kanjis say that this story is just the creation of the author and is not related to anything real life, abusing anything in real life is bad so don't confuse reality with fantasy and take it easy etc etc.
I'm a bit pissed off at this series of pictures. Basically, one kid doesn't like torturing yukkuris, so the rest of the kids pick on him and insult him for not having the same sadistic tendencies as them. So, they take outside, and force him to hurt yukkuris, to be accepted by the rest of the class.
It's like the bunch of idiots back at high school that kept on trying to get people in our class to go smoke pot with them in the bathroom, and if they refused, they would do things like hide their books, or fill their desk with trash.
And I don't really see how this is similar to behavior reinforcement with not following strangers or hugging a rat. Whereas the mentioned activities can result in your life being put in danger, not bullying yukkuri won't result in, say, you being killed, unless it's by the assholes that want you to submit to their ideas.
Of course there's danger to this kid- the threat of being harmed himself by the people who want him to kill the Yukkuri, like you said. So this is similar, as he'd associate not bullying the Yukkuri with himself being harmed and abused. Of course, that's a very bad outcome for him... as poweryoga said, the choice is obvious. The threat of harm to himself, and in the future, would be enough to reinforce the behaviour of abusing Yukkuris if this situation is repeated.
I have to say I really don't like this series either. You should leave wild ones alone unless they're creating trouble for people. If you really wanted to abuse Yukkuris, you should buy livestock or ones bred for the purpose.
>>You should leave wild ones alone unless they're creating trouble for people. Alternatively, you should treat wild yukkuris like the rats mentioned before and exterminate them like the pests they are.
^ Humans are terrible beings in general, and I like his works for how accurately it represents people. I feel like his yukkuris are just a byproduct that show off the worst in people.
My ideal ending for this would be the kid just snapping from being forced torture the yukkuris and killing all the other people. Yukkuri are too cute to hurt... and much too boring as guro subjects -- humans have blood and organs and bones and muscle that make it actually interesting when they're subjected to guro. Yukkuri just have eyes, dough, and goo.
>>Yukkuri are too cute to hurt... and much too boring
Although it's in the eye of the beholder, I'd say Yukkuri actually are a lot more interesting than people. You can see stuff like human blood and guts in films, on the TV, in vidya games... but Yukkuri? Now they're something special, a bit weird... you don't see a lot of talking buns.

OK, I hate to play thread necromancer, but I really need to point this out.
Yes, this story starts out with the poor kid having to pick between bullying Yukkuris or being bullied himself, and that's terrible, but it becomes more than that.
When he's trying to kill off the Marisa, it starts talking about the situation its in, how its OBVIOUSLY all the fault of the rest of her family, and how it's glad that they're all dead. This was plenty to convince the kid that Yukkuri really are shitty creatures and what tempted the final blow.
It's just a story. It isn't intended to persuade you to do or believe anything. It simply is.
