Late to reply, I know, but here's the answer.

It is colloquial, yes.
"choi" is a shortening of "chotto", with a bit of "chou" flavoring to it. I translated it to "rather" because "rather" can be used both as a minimizer and an embellisher.
"waru" is short for "warui", which can be translated as any number of negative words - "bad", "malicious", "mischievous", "villainous", etc. I chose "wicked".
