Reckless? Dunno they seem to had aimed for a controlled fire, yeah they used gasoline, but they also used a pile of wood, and a stake to stab the Reimu on to make her remain put and burn in place, instead of setting her on fire and let her bounce around with the high probability of spreading the fire in a uncontrolled way leading to some real tragedies or property damage.

I mean, you clearly had your jimmies rustled by too many aybuse works so maybe, to avoid getting into repeating constantly how this works get your jimmies rustled, it would be good for you to avoid them?

Again I tell you this from experience, it works like a charm both in OYP and in other places, incluiding real life.
