Urban strays are a favorite food of rats, and child and baby yukkuris are particularly easy prey. The rat launches a sneak attack during the opportunity afforded by the parent's hunt for filthy garbage. When the baby yukkuri is out of her parent's sight, [the rat] swiftly bites her to death and vanishes. The parent, intent on hunting, scarcely notices.
