I haven't a clue what's happening here. Is the cook using the temperature difference between the heated buns and the liquid to cause their skins to loosen for easier removal?
I would assume so. It also looks like he's using some sort of sweet substance, as the skin tone of the yukkuri seems to improve slightly and it looks as though it is relieved.
Then he can just yank the skin off and cook them up into spaghetti and yu-balls
You're right, there's a noticeable improvement to the skin's color and texture after the liquid is poured on them.
I'm rather curious if that works in real life; I may have to make some dumplings and fry them up to test this. That said, I wonder what the point is. Is the cook going to reuse the skin in a separate dish or serve them as appetizers? Fried dough certainly is common as a food item, but eating removed skin seems a bit unusual.
Well, that's one way of peeling boiled potatoes: You take them out of the boiling water, put them in really cold water for a few seconds and the skin peels off very easily. The same happens with boiled eggs.
If that's the case, the change of color is perhaps a way to show that the yu went from horribly burning to pleasant cooling.
Heh, Chucchuaki really likes tough yukkuri, huh? What with the 'turning into a pancake rather than a smear from being run over by a truck' to the 'survive boiling in oil'.
There's no point in frying up dumplings and then peeling off the skin from any sort of cooking perspective.
The only way this stuff makes sense is if the skin is not edible or if the cook is doing it to remove the horrified expressions on their face prior to serving to not scare customers. But judging from the last chansketch that seems unlikely.
Like Dyp said, it's a way of removing potato skin... but didn't know that about boiled eggs (don't make them myself).
But seeing this? I think its just to promote suffering to change the taste.
Although in common case, yukkuri's body usually breaks down first before their hairs, teeth and eyes. I guess there's not much fun in seeing bald manju suffering
