Nice job. What program did you use? Also if you want to do the handwritten look without having to worry about your handwriting being legible, there's always finding an appropriate font. I suggest Comic Sans.
I used SAI. I don't know if there are other free drawing programs out there I might try, other than Paint.net and Gimp.
And I would like to improve my handwriting as well (I swear it's not that bad in real life), but I guess using fonts would be fine for the sake of clarity.
If you're using Sai, try using the built-in stabilizer. I usually use the S-6 or S-5 setting for lineart and I recently found that 1 or 2 works well for handwriting.
