I never gave a thought to the lifespan of yukkuri seeing as they die of everything but old age. But if four years is the average there are a lot of impatient owners that just toss something with the lifespan of a hamster. If you're tired of its mouth just remove the tongue.

I'd say a talkative yukkuri without a tongue would be much more annoying. That being said, if this a FF image, I think we should follow suit.
Seems to be a short story of an anon reflecting on the happiest day he had with his Marisa.
Seems to say that his Marisa lived a full life (of four years). Legitimate to ask the question, "Is this how long a yukkuri lives?" Considering there are almost no stories that depict the actual length of life a yukkuri has.

Very often are feels involved when a yukkuri lives (or lived) its full life.

There doesn't seem to be any standardization for any aspect of yukkuri lifespans; it seems to vary based on the needs of the story. When a story revolves around wild yu, pregnancy is a condition that requires the unfortunate mate to wait on Deibu for days or even weeks, but if the story is about an anon who doesn't want his pets to have babies, then he'll go to bed with his yukkuris not even pregnant yet and wake up to find babies. And even less standardized is how long it takes for a yukkuri to reach adulthood. I usually estimate it at around a year, though in my early works it was more like two years and I've certainly had stories where it was less.
