Can someone help me with the last kanji in the second panel? The balloon says "omae no atarashii ?? da zo", which translates to "this is your new ?? zo" I've looked at a kanji list, but I couldn't find it (out of 2000 entries it's easy to miss what you look for...) More than knowing what it means, I'd like to actually study the kanji in case someone uses it again Even just using the kanji in a comment here is fine
番 (つがい) (n) (1) (one) pair (e.g. of birds); brace; couple; (2) joint; hinge; 番 (ばん) (n) (1) number (in a series); (2) (one's) turn; (3) watch; guard; lookout; (4) (sumo) bout; match;
So either "this is your new partner" or "this is your new one". Haven't read the rest of the comic for context.
Also "zo" is a generic masculine sentence-ending particle. It's not unusual for him to be using it, unlike Marisa's "ze", so there's no reason to keep it in the translation.
Thanks Baron Also, "zo" is not different than Marisa's "ze" They are different only in the fact that one is said by a girl Some translations of comics with the actual Kirisame keep her "ze", while others just give her a more down-to-earth way of speaking In addition, mister mohawk isn't using it, unlike the main character, so I think keeping it gives a different feeling to the comic It has happened already in another translation on this site, and I go with what the translator said: "it gives him more personality"
