How the heck is this thing so freaking expensive? If I remember correctly, koyu with no badge cost about 100 to 200 yen (which is roughly about a meal in my country) not dirt cheap but not pricey either. Look at this Maricha, which is not a run-of-the-mill product but definitely not a high-end one either, so if I have to guess, maybe $5 is an actual cost, which I think is a little too much for a common koyu with little to no training, but then again, who knows?
It's a very old one Non of this theory has been developed back then So just take it lightly Oh and the price right now? Non-badge one cost you less than 1$ For their purpose is to feed the other or a cheap practice or more often, abuse
As qaz said, back then yukkuri prices are different. It wasn't uncommon for a properly bred badgeless yu to cost 1000-2000円. Plus most yukkuris are dirt cheap because nobody buys them and they got discounted heavy, y'know like 1000円800円500円 200円 Final Price! Maybe this mister bought one that wasn't discounted yet.
Still, even back in 2011 30$ for a common ko was a bit outrageous
Sorry, may I ask how long does a ko grow into adult? In post #67061, there're two Reimu that I think they're adult already.
I don't think it's ever been established. Most works that depicts ko growing up either says that "some time has passed" or doesn't mention any passage of time at all. From what I could remember most that do show their age shows that by 1-3 month old they're usually already grown up.
Don't think those two Reimus are adults. It's very rare but there are artists like Takumi that depicts "teenager" yukkuris where they no longer slur and can do house chores by themselves but overall are still reliant on their parents for survival.
I thought that was a common thing? Like because adult yukkuris never live with their parents anymore (the minority that does so are all shitheads), so we can guess that a medium-size yukkuri that's still live with its parents but do not slur are all teenager one. There are also lots of pools that show this kind of yukkuri.

Most wild families I can remember are depicted with their children consisting of entirely slurring kos; even if there are multiple generations all of them (including the oldest generation) would still slur. I can only think of a few artist that actively depicts yukkuris families with teenager children, like Takumi or Yuppiyupitaro. Though I haven't re-read a lot of older works recently so maybe my memory is a bit hazy. It's probably more common than I remember as you said.
