anko0329: Creatures Who Should Die
Summary by platina:
A long, choppy story in which an organization of insane yukkuri haters launches a large-scale terrorist attack on Japan. They think yukkuris are "bad" and should all die, but the terrorists have no qualms about killing yukkuri-loving people, either. The story jumps from attack to attack, tied together by a newscaster announcing the latest news flashes.
Their terrorist acts include:
- Bombing and burning down Yukkurinpeace headquarters during a conference, killing at least a hundred people and ten thousand yukkuris
- Assassinating a prominent politician (who also happens to be the president of Yukkurinpeace)
- Setting fire to a number of yukkuri wildlife preserves (and killing their caretakers)
- Hijacking a live TV broadcast of the children's show "Happy Yukkuri Friends," torturing and killing the yukkuri performers, and raping the human hostess
- Attacking a number of private homes to kill the pet yukkuris there (and, in some cases, their owners)
- Hijacking the news studio to explain themselves and broadcast their manifesto
The terrorists commit suicide after they've carried out their missions.
Many people suffer PTSD afterwards, including longtime abyusers who no longer have the stomach for abyuse after witnessing the over-the-top actions of the terrorists. Restaurants stop serving live-yukkuri dishes because the yukkuris' screams remind people of that day. The story ends with two of the survivors of the news hijacking--the newscaster and the stray Deibu (now reformed) who the terrorists held up as an example of everything bad about yukkuris--meeting by chance and deciding to try to help each other recover.
Note from platina: This story left me wondering just what kind of audience it was written for--it graphically depicts loads of antisocial behavior, but it also kind of preaches against it and shows that contrary to the terrorists' beliefs, many yukkuris are good. Although I didn't like the story, I thought it had one highlight, a scene where a yukkuri tries to talk to an emergency dispatcher. I've translated that scene in its entirety. For context, an earlier scene showed a longtime abyuser watching "Happy Yukkuri Friends" at home as he prepared to abyuse a Reimu and being turned into a gibbering idiot by the horrors he saw.
"119! What's your emergency?"
"Take it easy!!!"
"Take it easy!!!"
"What is this, a crank call!? Dammit, we're busy!!!"
"Wait, easy!!!! Don't hang up, okay!!!!"
"Huh!? What are you talking about!? Listen! We've got calls coming in from all over--we're busy!!! I'm hanging up, okay? Jeez!!!"
"Wait easy!!! Mister is suffering!!!"
"What? Suffering? What's his condition!?"
"He's not taking it easy!!! He's not taking it easy a lot!!!"
"Huh!? Easy!? What do you mean!? Is he breathing!? Is he conscious!?"
"He keeps screaming papipupepooooo!!!"
"Papipupepo? What is that!? Is anyone else there?"
"Reimu is the only one!!! All the other yukkuris were crushed!!!"
"Yukkuris!? Huh!? You're a yukkuri!?"
"Reimu is Reimu!!! Take it easy!!!"
"Waitaminute... seriously...? Listen, Reimu-is-Reimu, tell me where you are now!"
"At mister's home!!!"
"Jeez... it figures... That doesn't tell me anything!!! Tell me his address!!! His address!!!"
"Yuu!? What!? What's an address? Is it a mister sweet-sweet?"
"Cripes... It was pointless to even ask... Look, Reimu, just give up. Bye."
"Wait!!! Don't hang up!!! Don't hang up, easy!!! Reimu can see mister Tokyo Tower from the window!!! And Reimu went up some stairs, so Mister's home is on mister second story!!"
"That isn't enough for me to figure out where you are!!! Tell me something more specific!!!"
"Before Reimu went into the house, the sign said "Kuzure" in mister hiragana, and then something in characters Reimu couldn't read!!! It's really shabby--a house that looks like it's going to fall apart!!! There were lots and lots of mister doors, and Reimu is on mister second floor!!! Mister's name is Onii!!!"
"No way... Listen, Reimu... From the window, can you see mister sun? Take a look. Can you see mister sun?"
"YuUuUU!!! So briiiiight!!! Hwoooootchhhh!!!!"
"Reimu!!! Can you hear me? Does the mister who can't take it easy have a black circle below his eye?"
"Yuu? He does, easy!!!"
"Seriously!? That sonofabitch, what was he doing!? Listen, Reimu, I know where you are, so someone's coming right away, okay!!!"
"Mister, thaaaaaank you!!! Don't take it easy, come quicklyyyy!!!"
"Onii in that ratty apartment building Kuzure-sou--I was at school with him!!!! This is crazy!!!! An abyuser like him, getting saved by a yukkuri!!!!"
[Near the end of the story, the author mentions a rumor that a yukkuri rescued her would-be abyuser. That's the only follow-up this scene gets.]
