anko191 & 193 : Para-Marisa 01 & 02
Mister is just a nameless Mister, but he wanted to create Para-Marisa. Yes, that's a variation of yukkuri Marisa, but it doesn't exist yet.
There's a lot of yukkuri types these days. The cute, the scum. Those who cross the water on their hat or gathering food in their hat. Those who give birth and those who not. Those who have body and those who don't. Those who sing, who has shell, who grow plants, who know performance, the changeling. The rapist and the raped. The dancing and rolling. There's no end to it.
You can also say, there's nothing interesting about keeping normal yukkuri these days.
First, he bought a newborn baby Marisa, a cheerful baby Marisa that throw away stars all around like the real Marisa.
He kept it in a space barricaded with books. He introduced himself as Marisa's father. For feed, he give Marisa bread skin and orange sugar water. He also trained Marisa to use the toilet, which is several sheet of stacked tissue.
One day when Marisa is already ping pong ball sized, he put Marisa's feed on top of tissue box. Marisa can climb up stair and pass through doors, but those are one way door so Marisa can't go back. Her only way is by jumping down.
Previously, he had made another braid to Marisa's right side and secured both with pins to her hat. He also made small hole on top of Marisa's hat.
He told Marisa that she can become the easy Para-Marisa, that the hat will slow her fall. At first, Marisa failed, but Marisa doesn't give up. She tried again and again.
As his suggestion that Marisa can float better with bigger Mister Hat, one week later, Marisa has grown bigger and her hat is even more. She can already glide well and the hole on top of her head let out air that allowed her to descend.
When Marisa grow bigger, he added the height when Marisa is asleep. Now, Marisa can glide from the table to the edge of the room.
Even so, one day when Marisa has grown to volleyball sized, she keeps falling down. Marisa thought she need more training and thus try again, but Mister is worried and start to investigate the real problem.
Apparently, it's not the hat. Marisa grow too heavy. He told Marisa that she can't become Para-Marisa if her body is heavy.
Miraculously, the next day Marisa can fly again by puffing her cheeks. Her hat also changed shape and enable her to control her gliding direction.
One day, Marisa fly to Mister and greet him. Marisa has grown and now she asked for a wife.
Mister is kind of worried, but it's a chance to mass produce these Marisa. He might be able to sell them, or make them as a show. At worst, he can just crush them.
Mister then took Marisa to the pet shop with worried heart. Yukkuri hate those with weird accessories, so will Marisa ever found a wife ?
He put Marisa on his head because Marisa's wide hat also protect him from the sun. But will the other yukkuri accept a Marisa with such big hat ?
Surprisingly, the yukkuri in the pet shop called to Marisa like they're starving. Marisa is very popular, yet because she never met other yukkuri, she's shy.
Finally Marisa settled with a Reimu and at home Mister held an ad lib wedding ceremony for them.
That night, Mister also realized, even if it's yukkuri, being in the same room with newlywed couple is really painful.
Reimu is shocked seeing Marisa jump from the shelf, but knowing that's how Marisa bring them food, she accepted that. Mister keep feeding Marisa in high places because he enjoyed watching Marisa gliding.
When Marisa's babies are born, they're all normal Marisa and Mister is quite disappointed, although he know it's a tall order.
Thankfully, all the babies enjoyed seeing their father fly and want to be able to do it too. Marisa told them they need to train to be Para-Marisa. their hat will become like Marisa's someday when they're sleeping (well, Mister will do it for them).
But now, Marisa doesn't allow them to climb up to the shelf, that's for adult and the little one will become uneasy if they can't come down.
Marisa also told Reimu she could because Reimu's ribbon is like butterfly.
That brings a tragedy one night. Mister found Reimu squashed. At first he suspected Marisa, they're yukkuri after all. But Marisa loved Reimu very much, she wouldn't do it.
After failing to revive Reimu with Fanta Orange, they wondered why Reimu died there.
Then, Marisa's youngest daughter told them, Mommy came out to train to become butterfly.
Marisa remembered, she did say Reimu's ribbon is like butterfly and that the platform is for adult. Reimu misunderstood and falls to her death. Marisa truly regretted her words.
Meanwhile the youngest Marisa promised to fly for her mother. Somehow, she had braid on both side of her head and both are secured with pin to her hat. Maybe her mother did that earlier.
After that, the little Marisa trained everyday. By the day, they jump from stacked box like what their father used to do. By night, Marisa gave them lectures.
All the children turned into Para-Marisa. Mister never stopped them because he knew, by learning they're trying to forget the sadness of losing Reimu.
The process is about the same. One day, they hit the body weight barrier, but learning from their father they too modified their hat to glide freely. All the children improved, but among them the youngest daughter is the best skilled.
Then, finally they came to Mister whom they also call Father. Their age is close to when Marisa asked to marry, so he give a flick to each of their head first.
Surprisingly it's not a wife they wanted. They want to go outside.
Mister is worried and warned them, there are many enemies outside and they can't always get food. If they stay in his home he can feed them (he got those bread skins for free anyway), but they're on their own out there.
Their father will stay because she likes her home, but the kids want to go out, so she will let them.
Before that though, Mister will train the children to live outside. After all, if they fail then they will die.
First he let them eat natural foods like bugs, grasses and flowers. It's bitter and hard compared to the bread they always eat, but finally they got used to it.
He also train them to hunt for bugs inside bathroom and not letting them out before they succeed.
In the end, after training them he let them fly and disappear into the forest.
Five days later, heavy rain falls and Mister found the eldest daughter Marisa knocking on his door. Her body is half melted and her sisters are nowhere to be seen. Right... he forgot to teach them about rain.
From her story, they did meet with wild yukkuri and initially welcomed into the clan because of their unique accessories. But Para-Marisa don't have many skill to live in the wild.
Because their braids are secured to their hat, they can't use it to bring food like other Marisa. They also can't play hat exchanging with their peers. Moreover, their special skill, gliding, needed high ground to start, which is unavailable in the forest. That's why quickly other yukkuri condemned them as useless.
Finally, they got attacked by cat and only thanks to her luck the eldest daughter managed to came back home. The youngest daughter got crushed by the cat while the second daughter died in the rain.
Marisa is saddened by the death of her daughters. She only want to enjoy flight with everyone, but flight has killed her wife and then took away her children.
Losing her reason to live, Marisa just eat and became fat. Her hat grew smaller and finally Mister cut her braid off from her hat so she can become a normal fat Marisa who spend her days watching outside the window.
A year after that, Mister noticed Marisa's body is dry and cracking. She had reached the end of her life. Yukkuri are magical manju who's sustained by their will to live. Marisa had survived for a year after losing her family.
Before she dies, Marisa told Mister that she actually want to fly too, with Reimu, with her little ones. It's too bad that she can't fly anymore.
When Mister is about to throw away Marisa's body, he got greeted by little Marisa. Wide hat, two braids sticked to the hat by fresh leaves and flatter body. When the little Marisa called herself Para-Marisa and throw a star, Mister quickly recognized this as child of his Marisa's youngest daughter.
From the little Marisa's story, apparently the youngest daughter is saved from the cat by another yukkuri who actually liked their ability to fly. Together, they find a way to capture wind and fly without depending on high ground. They had improved the Para-Marisa's gliding method.
That yukkuri is also a Marisa. They married and had many children which they taught to fly too.
Mister asked if she came to meet him, the person who created Para-Marisa, but again, the yukkuri surprised him. No, Marisa only came here to greet him before going on a journey. Her father told her that the true Para-Marisa is very easy and able to fly to the yukkuri heaven. Today, she's embarking on that journey.
After a jump, she opened her hat to catch wind and climb higher to the sky. They're like weightless, totally different from the three sisters who first fly off from Mister's place.
In the sky many many dots of Para Marisa also in their migration to the east.
Ever since then, every year adult Para Marisa fly in flocks to the east.
Maybe nobody will believe if he say those creatures started from his stupid idea, but he's truly sorry for the trouble he has made to everyone.
As for the Para Marisa, for now they all just soak the Japan current's basin black with paste, but someday they would surely be able to reach the land beyond the sea and found their heaven... probably.
