The Meaning of Growing Vegetables
"Let me out easy!"
"Like hell I'll do."
A farmer is looking at a juvenile adult Marisa fallen into a trap hole he prepared. He know very well this Marisa understand that this is human's farm, she has been scouting the place for a week looking for a chance. During that time, she should've seen the Farmer doing his work.
Everytime she saw the Farmer, Marisa run away, showing that she also understand that no good thing will come out if she tried tresspassing.
"Yu! Marisa know! Mister Farm is where Mister Vegetable grows on its own! But Mister Human hogs everything! Marisa is not wrong!"
Okay, this one is not really scum, but also stupid beyond any salvage.
He tried making Marisa understand that the vegetables are grown from effort. Marisa saw him watering the vegetables and clean up the weeds. Only scum would tresspass and eat the vegetables that's not their own.
Marisa rebuffed. She say all those are lies. Marisa and her kinds also grow vegetables, but there's no way vegetables would grow with what the human do.
This is a surprising thing. Up until now, the Farmer has seen countless yukkuri holding strong to their belief that vegetables just grow on their own. This is the first yukkuri that say they understand food cultivation.
The Farmer then made a deal. Marisa would show him how yukkuri grow their vegetables. If it's true, he would share his crop. If it's a lie, Marisa is dead.
The clan Marisa live in is 20 minutes yukkuri walk into the forest. There, the clan probably has met painful experience with human so they're all afraid.
The Farmer told them he just want to see their farm. If it's true, he will share his crops. This made all yukkuri happy.
But if it's a lie, the whole clan will be crushed.
So, chief Patchouli bring the Farmer deeper into the forest. There, he saw something he has never seen before.
There, yukkuri had half their body buried into the ground. On their head is a stalk like in pregnancy, but midway it turns into a normal vegetable stalk growing fruits. The stalk sucked nutrition so the yukkuri is in pain.
There's no way this is devised by yukkuri. Patchouli told the Farmer that originally this is created by human.
The humans throw the scum entering their village to rapers and then cut their stalk to replace with vegetable stalk. The humans told the clan to keep them alive and suffering. In exchange, all the crops from those pots are for the yukkuri to share.
Clan leader changed, but the clan's tradition holds.
This is a great work actually. Yukkuri's paste is really good for agriculture. Plants that usually can be harvested only for a year can be harvested for many years when planted on yukkuri, and the crops are great. For fertilizer, they simply need to feed grass, leaves and poo poo to those seedbed yukkuri. If they're buried in rotten leaves, they wont freeze to death in winter.
This way, the yukkuri is shown a way to get delicious food even without having to face dangerous human. At the same time, it also showed the clan yukkuri what will happen to scum.
Seeing this, the Farmer finally understand what Marisa meant. Ever since she's born, she's raised while watching this. Raising vegetables means letting the stalk to suck nutrition. What humans do, such as watering, giving fertilizer, is not seen as agricultural work. Thus, the plants in human's farm "grow on their own".
Can't complain much. Most human wouldn't believe yukkuri's agriculture method themselves.
Even yukkuri can have their own reason.
The Farmer hold his end of the deal, he will share his crops. But he doesn't have enough vegetables for the whole clan, so he wanted some yukkuri to help. He will let them keep their vegetable and even get sweets sweets.
Almost 90% of the clan volunteered to help. That is until Patchouli reminds them of their clan's rule. Never take anything from Mister Human and never accept anything from Mister Human. She also know that after eating sweets sweets, they wouldn't be able to eat anything else.
Patchouli is a strong leader, so only 30% of the clan insist on going to the farm.
In the farm, he gave them leftover crops and then lime candy. He burned their feet one by one, leaving one Alice to be the raper. Maybe she's already a latent raper because the Farmer has only saw her say "nhooooo!" ever since their first meeting.
After a stalk grows, he cut them off and stick a seedling to their head. He will eat the stalk and yukkuri fruits himself later.
The leftover raper Alice, he cut off the peni peni and planted the vegetable there.
All the yukkuri are buried.
The Farmer has hold his end of the deal, but he adapt it to the yukkuri's way of doing farming.
Farmer left the yukkuri in the plastic house. His house is far enough so he's not disturbed by their screaming and blaming Marisa. At the same time, their voice keep animals and other yukkuri away from the farm.
