This is a park used by yukkuri lovers and pet yukkuri to play together. A beautiful view that will please all yukkuri lovers.

But of course, there's also public disturbance, like this stray Marisa pledging to be taken as pet to a man sitting on the bench.

Marisa used to be a gold badge pet.
But one day, she met a stray Reimu and they Refreshed! and have little ones. Soon after that, Miss, her owner, throw her out. Marisa's family died in hunger. Reimu and the last child got crushed because they begged to human. Now, after the suffering, Marisa want to be taken as pet again.

Most of the pet owners already leave the place, not wanting to traumatize their pet. One of the pet owner prepared to stop the man if he want to crush Marisa.

Of course she wouldn't take Marisa as her pet. She will just praise Marisa, told her to try her best and give her leftover candies as parting gift.

Surprisingly, Mister said he will take Marisa as his pet. He will give Marisa tasty food, no more the vomitting tasted trash or shitty tasted grass. He will give Marisa a place to live, no more bully Mister Wind, Snow and Rain.
Marisa is happy. She promised to learn and get a gold badge again.

But in exchange, Mister give his rules. Marisa must not make a mess. Marisa must use the toilet. Marisa may not make contact with strays, and not even other pet without his permission. Marisa wont be allowed to have a partner or children. He will take Marisa's freedom in exchange of home and food.
Marisa also don't need to bother about getting gold badge, he doesn't need it.

This enraged the Miss with Reimu pet who's watching him. His words are too harsh. They then get into a debate.

Mister answered back, it's best to be straight about reality, much better than sweet words that could be misunderstood.

Badge ? No need for that. It's fine as long as the owner can recognize the pet's ability. Besides, badge test is a joke and simply a tool to sell expensive pets.

For example, Mister asked Miss if she ever had driving license. She had, and she passed the test with perfect score. Mister only managed to get 90 in the test. But that's years ago, and he's sure nobody in this park has the confidence they will be able to pass the test again now, even after having more experience.
Same with the pets. They learn something they never experienced before just for the sake of getting the badge. The rules and knowledge is not important anymore after they reached their goal so it will be forgotten.
Moreover, Marisa has experienced being a pet and being stray. Can she ever pass the test that's mostly about how she will obey uneasy rules she had experienced first hand ?

But there's nice yukkuri too. Badge is a proof that separate the scum strays and good pets.

Mister asked Reimu and Miss, what is a nice yukkuri ? Oh yes, it's how human call the "convenient" yukkuri. The yukkuri that's clean, watch their mouth, never want partner and children, obey human, love their owner and wont hate their owner no matter what kind of life they're given.

Reimu starts to doubt her owner. Is she just kept as a pet because she's convenient ? Something to make Miss feel easy when she wants it ?

Mister said again, Miss kept Reimu because she feel lonely from living alone. Has she ever think of how Reimu feel lonely when Miss is out for work ? It doesn't matter if it's a scum or gold badge pet, or even human, they will feel lonely without friend and partner, that's something natural.

Pet yukkuri itself is a mistake, a culture made by human.
Imagine, what if you're the pet. You must obey your master, and until the end of your life, in exchange of food and shelter.

Mister doesn't reject animal pet though. Not exactly accepting, it's more like he can't tell what those animals are thinking or how they feel. Dogs, cats, birds, fishes, human don't know how they think. They could be sad, but they could be happy, it's a mistery.
In contrary, yukkuri speaks human language and in some respect, has the same mentality as human being and pride close to human being. With that, he can understand that yukkuri should feel confined by life as a pet.

All the yukkuri can't speak, they only listened to what Mister is saying.

What is living creature's purpose in life ? Survival ?
Some humans are exception, but essentially it's procreating. Every creature want to have children and leave the mark of their existence in this world. Mister and Miss still haven't married yet, but it's true.

So, why should magical manju be an exception ? Yukkuri are weak and always living under looming threat of death. With that, their desire to leave their next generation are even stronger. That's why yukkuri always desired to have a big family. It's their instinct so deeply ingrained, they dreamed of that future even from before they're born.

The root of most pet owners problem is this partner and children. They might think lightly about the yukkuri childishly saying "little ones are easy", but for yukkuri, it's a serious business. The "easyness" of giving birth and raising children for yukkuri species is strongly tied to their sense of survival as a species.

In the other hand, owners are troubled by letting yukkuri follow their instinct. One is enough. Having to take care of many yukkuri is really troublesome. If they can't stop the yukkuri, then they will just castrate the yukkuri.
This terrorized the yukkuri in the park.

If the yukkuri is castrated though, unmistakably they will ends up as scum or being neglected.
That's a natural thing. If you take away someone's purpose in life, they will live a meaningless life like walking dead.
Human can find another job or hobby to fill their life, but for yukkuri species who enjoy being lazy...

No matter how much a pet owner loves their pet, they're always different species. If they have to choose with their own family, their own child, against pet, they will choose their own kind.

Pet yukkuri live in a lie. They have food and shelter, but as soon as they cross that fine line of rule, they will become scum and get abandoned.
Pet yukkuri just doesn't realize it and the owners turn their eyes from the inconvenient truth.

Why is Mister saying all these things ? Because he think it's not fair... for Marisa.

After becoming a stray, Marisa finally understand what's the true meaning of becoming stray, the real feeling human have towards yukkuri without any pretense.
Now, he want to teach Marisa the true meaning of becoming pet yukkuri without any pretense.

Mister don't like pretense. If you're making a deal, you should make it clear so nobody can file a claim afterward just because they "misunderstood".

Marisa used to be a gold badge pet, so she's not that stupid. She can understand what Mister is saying and she refused Mister's offer of sweets sweets, comfortable house and toys in exchange of her freedom.
She decided her life on her own, she wants freedom instead of life as slave and never having babies. Pet yukkuri is uneasy.

The park burst into chaos as the pet yukkuri saw the truth of their life. They're nothing more than slave to their owner.

Mister has gone away before the owners can protest. Along the way, he thought about what really made yukkuri happy. Maybe, it's living free and fight for their life. Even if they ends up as inanimate manju, at least they hold on to their principle.

If they hold their pride so much, Mister won't complain, no human has the right to do so. But if they can throw away their pride, Mister will take them in.
Just like the group of yukkuri who greeted him with blank eyes and fake smile as he came back home. He's a very responsible pet owner, he just don't like pretense.
