I tossed this up on the yufanfics group but I thought I'd post this up here to get some feedback.
So first things first: Yes, this is a "game". No, it doesn't work because I'm not done with it. The idea is to make a yukkuri-simulation game with the option of appealing to both factions of the yukkuri community. You can be nice to it, or you can slap it around like a red-headed stepchild.
So far, about the only thing that does work in this game is yukkuri movement. I have a very very basic AI controlling this yukkuri right now and all it does is hop around randomly. In the future, I hope to make it do more robust things, including interaction with anything you have. I will implement a drag-and-drop or a click-and-click action bar so that you can drop food on the floor, or force feed a yukkuri. Pet the yukkuri or slap it across the room, and more. I'm looking for ideas on what I can put in the game as well, as long as its nothing too complicated. (This is hard enough to do as is)
What I'm really really looking for are more 3d textures of yukkuris, and ideas and designs of what I can put in these various submenus.
What I'm using to program:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Microsoft XNA SDK YukkuriPostal's Textures (As you can see the ribbon is all black and doesn't show up properly) C# development.
It's good to see someone is getting somewhere. My work on a yukkuri game is currently stalled a bit; and, by stalled I mean "I finally got a job;" and, by job I mean "I go somewhere for most of the day to do something for which I receive meager compensation."
For the chat part, instead of using Chinese version of "take it easy" I would prefer the original version (Japanese) It looks pretty good so far, keep it up!
It'd just be nice if someone got up to at least a passable sort of beta of a yukkuri sim. Yukkuri postal is the closest we've got at the moment, and it's..... well, a bit sparse.
So far I don't even have the camera angles working the way I want it to. I still have to get images and draggable menus working, and then there's collision detection. I also need to put in some sort of animation on the face...
So yeah, lots of things on the agenda.
I can put out the executable but there's nothing you can do on it, so it'd be boring.
Hey, no big deal. If it gets done, it gets done, and if not, it doesn't. It'd just be great if SOMEBODY got it done, and your vision of it sounds fundamentally pretty sound.
But to be quite honest, I haven't done anything on the game other than fix the cameras and make the buttons interactive since last time. The buttons have no real functionality as of right now, because I can't figure out some crucial steps of transition between 2d and 3d.
I was also thinking about making game about yukkuri but: 1) I cant draw sprites (I prefer 2D) and I cant do anything in 3D yet. 2) Im not really good at programing, Im learning it just a year, I can say I advanced in C++ and I know how to use allegro enough to make a game but game like this should not be a problem. It would be good if more people would get together to make this game.
No thanks, I dont know C# yet, and I dont mind coding, I only need freakin sprites. All my tries to draw something are pathetic. BTW what was that game supposed to be? I would like to make something like tamagochi/black & white.
Thats why I prefer 2D, looks better (unless you can make really good models) and codes better, at least I think cuz I never done anything 3D :) I also want to start learning C# somewhen during the summer but Ill expand my C++ knowledge first. Until then we can get someone to make perfect sprites or models and then we shock the world with our awesome game. *wakes up*
I hate to think that only thing that separates me from creating awesome game that anybody who loves yukkuris (with or without violence) would love. I have tried to draw yukkuri on paint tool sai but it just looks too fake even if there are some nice features, Ill better just try it on MS paint with lower resolution. Sprites can be always changed so I may star working on code, Ill need to practice on something anyway.
Great, I should write concept first then Ill start programing, Ill tell you as soon Ill need any sprites. If you are really bored you could draw some simple portrait of yukkuri, lets say 150x150 :)
Ok, I wrote basic concept in 5 minutes so dont expect much.
Yukkuri Game will be 2D game programed in C++ and Allegro 3rd party library which will handle graphics, input and possibly sounds. The game should be something like mix of Tamagochi, where you have a pet about which you have to take care and Black & White where you also have pet but you can train it, reward it or punish it for its actions and so. Game will have multiple zones but main should be yukkurarium where the yukkuri will live. Other zones should be frying pan or livingroom with TV ,where yukkuri can compare its life with wild yukkuris, and so. There will be 4 basic types of yukkuris: Reimu, Marisa, Patchouli and Alice. Everyone of them will have different personality and behavior. Every action taken on yukkuri will change its opinion about you and in extreme cases it may even permanently change some of their attributes or personality. There should be many way of how you can affect your yukkuri including pairing them into famillies. I dont think there is any way to get yukkuri like voice so they will communicate with speach bubbles. Ill try to keep basic laws of yukkuri life and survival but if it will make game more fun, Ill change them.

Zug, you should consider more a gameplay like Nintendogs! Basicly it's the same as tamagotchi! The Yukkuri Voice is just computer generated so i don't really think its a problem. And well yea I'm more familiar with C# than C++ and XNA makes it really alot easier to implement things than in C++ and i would also prefer a 3D Game, even if the most fanprojects look crappy. I would also say making more Types wouldn't be bad, because all of these are just fitting too well, so a Remitype wouldn't be that bad! First of all we should make the Engine with a Reimu/Marisa type and mostly doing work on AI and Functionality things!
I dont know Nintendogs so if there are some interesting ideas then name them, C# and XNA may be better then C++ but I dont know how to use them yet. Number of types really depends on how yukkuri personality will work, if it will be just about number there can be much more yukkuris and even custom ones. Ill try this first and if it will be good leater when Ill also know C# we can try much better 3D game.
Zug, better and easier are two diffent things! C++ is better, but a lot harder than C# w/ XNA and C# w/ XNA makes faster a process w/o much Knowhow! Yea a Google Code Group like Dolphin Emulator and SVN would be great
Ok Im just creating discussion on yukkuri google group. @Three, I dont think that 150x150 will be really a pixelart but you are probably gonna work with pixels, you can draw it 200x200 or 250x250 if you think it will be better, just not took big. @Sarrg, I dont think that there is some really great difference, I believe I can make it with C++ and if not, time will help.
Yeah, you'll have to make use of placeholder sprites until some proper ones come along. Looking forward to what three comes up with. I made a bunch for my own small project that I had by botching up and copypasta-ing from a selection of clammbon and kiriraitaa's works...
