After artillery strikes, then infantry will close in to rifle range to fire. After the supporting fire, then the enemy infantry will move in under the cover. The enemies will attack while the infantry are pinned down. Once enemy soldiers close to melee range, strong support weapons and hand grenades are rendered useless. Even heavy weapons such as machine guns would quickly be overrun by foes armed with bayonets up close.
