oh boy, well... I never intended to use super-dosu to eat buildings. :| I think this is more inspired by cloverfield than anything else just because of the eyes.
^I wasn't implying this had anything to do with your story, sorry if I gave that impression. I just found it Ironic how it coincidentally came out only a day or two after your story. XP
The title "Payback" reminds me kinda of that delusional notion of way back when Anti-Abuse was even more active and people wanting to make "revenge fics" of yukkuris "punishing" humanity and shit like that.
Now a days, i think such story would evolve into yet another way to prove the yukkuris wrong and even make them be worse monsters than humanity could ever be.
Typical "Humans have many bad aspects, but you are completely full of them you hypocritical creature" kind of story.
"Payback" here seems to just denote revenge. Or perhaps they just enjoy killing humans like abusers enjoy killing yukkuri.
Or perhaps the artist just wants to knock us down a peg. Since yukkuri are so fragile and helpless it's quite common in fanfics nowadays for authors to do some kinda-pitiful god complex self inserting.
Well Payback means Payback, so it gives a more "Revenge" connotation than role reversal.
And dunno what you mean by god complex, i had never seen an anon pulling a "God I Am" like thing, if anything they are a sadistic version of the bullies. It's kinda hard to generate a God Complex when abusing yukkuris usually is easy modo. Anons tends to be more like walking plot devices for the violence to happen than anything, rarely they get a serious development or some sort of gimmick, so i really doubt we can go labelling them with god complex, pitiful or self inserting.
Rarely an anon gets a treatment like the doughnut guy or the between studies guy, as in being developed to some degree.
By "god complex" I basically mean they are, comparatively, gods. Actual yukkuri biology is just a technicality to them, the yukkuri beg their forgiveness from almighty Anon as He exerts His will on the lowly yukkuri.
God Complex is when someone believes himself or herself a deity, not when they can exert their will on a weaker being. I would use another word to describe their situation.
Actually i usually think of the anons as a form of force, a violent force, since many times they are nothing more than a plot device for violence to fall on the yukkuris without developed characteristics and such, so many times it feels like the yukkuris are facing a force that they just can't fight back, nor god, nor overlord, nothing.
Well my point still stands. And that is that in a lot of these fanfics it's heavily implied that the yukkuri are fundamentally helpless against anon, in the same way that people would be helpless against some deity. It's not explicit but the concept is definitely there.
In any case you do make a good point, Anon DOES seem to be a plot device rather than a central object in the story being told. Evidenced by the stories of the damn things managing to smash themselves without any "help".
First, is thoses dosus have some kind of invisible ability to get into city with the colossal body without being detect?
Second, It seem likes this country doesn't have any napalm or aircraft or the military react super-duperly slow.( Or civilians escape slow like yukkuri)
The point about anons comparatively being gods is valid, and I remember Toawa mentioned something a long time ago about anons being similar to gods out of Greek mythology... but that it's pitiful authors self-inserting themselves with god complexes? ...No, seeing as the point is abuse, and they tend to get into it (seeing as they drew abuse, I'd imagine they do rather like it). It isn't about them, and practically never has it really been "look at me, I'm great and almighty, we're powerful beings that all must bow down to and can crush others at will" (It might seem like that, but that's forgetting the point is enjoying abuse, and there's not really much insecurity in those), and more about "When I see you crying out in agony, I feel the greatest happiness". As I said, the comparison of anons and yukkuris to gods etc. is actually apt, but god complexes are something quite different. And as JIE says, most of the time anons simply are plot devices to trigger abuse.
Except the same thing about anon being comparative to have a god complex can be said about yukkuri as well. They want free food, free shelter, no work, no responsibility and complete and utter overwhelming power/control over all they see. God complex much?
