Goddamnit, look at that little baby. Bouncing off that human leg and thinking it's won? How can something be so cute but so detestable at the same time?

Conceptually, that's the idea behind the Non FF works yukkuris, a "Cute Critter that is Hateful".
Of course the cuteness isn't 100% assured, sometimes it depends a lot of opinion, for example here, you find them cute, i find them an eyesore, meanwhile with Kiriraitas i only find the Adult Yukkuris cute, while anything from his works like a Koyukkuri or the House-Yu are moeblob repelling to me.
It is simple minded. You know that this baby is retarded, or prematured, you know that they do this because they don't know the strenght of human, they don't know their position.
And despite that, you say that it is detestable?
They have two option:
Shake in fear OR fight back.
Maybe they are dumb... No, they are dumb in some way. But this need some guts, they do this to stop a stupid kid who attack them for stealing the money they earn for their work.
It isn't detestable in any war, pathetic maybe. But if you think that it is detestable, you should think more carefully.
I know all the topic and message make with the yukkuri, but what is the more pathetic and hateful is the message who try to justify the emotion of the autor, or to explain why they hate them.
You want to see them bullied, dying and all that stuff. You don't like them, this is all. This is not a problem of "Oh, they are cute but GOD THEY ARE DETESTABLE".You don't like them. It isn't because you think that they are cute that you don't dislike them (or don't want to see them abuse).Assume that and stop justify any of your emotion. This is not for picking a fight, it is a general observation.
Take it easy, ok?
Except by that logic, yukkuris should shake in fear (or run away) 99.9% of the time simply due to the size difference. The human equivalent of "koMarisa with a stick-vs-Anon" would be a 4 year old stabbing a 30 foot tall bear with a needle because the bear is raiding the family fridge.
Oh and the Marisa isn't premature or retarded. Thats just the art style.
Don't forget that koyukkuri are really dumb, they think that their parent are invincible, so they must think "Year, we can fight everything".They focus, in general, on one mind. Like the mother reimu who are afraid by the humans but thanks them when the human look like he is gonna help her children, forgetting all the precedent action.I think it is available right here, they have the idea of "Fighting the human scum who hurt mother", they don't think anymore of "I am afraid!" or "He is really strong.".
wow. One off-hand comment causes a whole bunch of psycho-analyzing? Yea I think you guys do need to take it easy.

Welcome to OYP.
1) There is no guts, bravery, etc. In this act by the Komarisa, only arrogant idioticy, the statement of "next one is a finisher, i'll win", proves it.
2) I think Bluhblubluh was talking in general about the story, finding the art cute, but the yukkuris on the story detestable, and mind you, they are detestable and a bunch of trash manjuus, unlike the original "Beating in an Alley" Story, this yukkuris aren't sympathetic at all, you realize this by their song, attitudes and mistaken assumption about money. There is a reason why so many comments in the original non translated version went "Bleh, unlike the original story here, i can't sympathize with the yukkuris everybody is an asshole in this story!"

It's always like this. Always.
OK lemme just clarify my statement, so you're all aware.
By all logical and analytically assessments of the word. These things (and most Yukkuri images FYI) are cute. They have little round bodies, they bounce around, they have big eyes and they speak in a slurred baby-talk that is meant to evoke a sense of motherly protection... but at the same time. They completely fail at this. Why? Because they're what we call disquieting.
When something is SO unnaturally beautiful that it seems artificially designed that way and goes right back around to being ugly? That's disquiet. And Yukkuri's have it in spades, except theirs is cuteness instead of beauty. Yukkuries are so artificially geared towards being adorable (everything they do could be seen as 'cute' in some context) that they come back around and wind up being absolutely hideous and detestable. Every single aspect of cuteness is implanted and magnified inside of their little bodies to such a stupefying degree that it stops feeling like genuine cuteness and more like someone's trying to artificially build cuteness, and it's failed.
Like... lemme explain here: when you see a pair of newborn kittens. They're adorable, right? You don't wanna squash the kittens under your boot (I sincerely HOPE none of you do) because they're genuinely evoking the proper reaction in your brain, because evolution and nature made them like that. Both to their parents and to other creatures, so they'd reconsider attacking the defenceless creatures. Yukkuri's fail at this, because they take everything to a ridiculous extreme. A kitten might pee on your hand, because it doesn't really know any better, but it's not going to start pissing itself with joy every time it's sister does something vaguely adorable, it doesn't do poo-poo dance or prance around doing everything with such sugar-sweetness that it makes you want to crush their bodies.
I'm mainly bringing this up here because Sales Guy and Kiri seem to be the two artists who cross this boundary a lot. Having their yukkuries go beyond the realm of traditional "cute" into the realms of disgusting sweetness. Kiri walks the line a lot (any of his ko's who piss at a constant rate and are happy about it tend to go over the line) but Sales seems to be the best at having adorableness twist into horribleness.
