Single child will usually got spoiled and develop character that doesn't suit survival. But with many siblings they wouldn't think the world will serve them and might even learn to do things on their own rather than waiting for their turn.
Well, from later panels, the single child tends to favor independence sooner, but is unprepared for the harsh world. With no experience in dangerous situations, the yukkuri will not know how to survive and avoid danger.
Large families yield few survivors, but the survivors live longer because of observing their sisters die off. They learn to spot danger and become more cautious as a result.
If you see the pie chart, the most common time to get out of the nest is from 4-9 months for both group. But the rate of children from large families who can already live on their own since 3 months old are almost 4 times single child. Case of single child that takes 9 months to 1 year to get out of the nest is twice as much as children from large family. While the number that refuse becoming independent are more than double of those from large family.
The bar graph actually say single child has higher childhood survival rate (percentage of children surviving in family).
Yukkuris from small families are more likely reach nest-independent age due to the fact that they receive better care.
Yukkuris from large families are less likely survive long enought to reach that age for independence but if they do, they are more likely like to survive longer on their own since they witness so many deaths in the family, the learn the dangers more earlier than yukkuris from small families.
