I thought like Didact -- it doesn't matter what the accessory is, nor is it not always necessary for parents to identify their children. Though, swapping their accessories with another can make the child appear to be an unknown yukkuri, and funny enough, could potentially make the parents adopt said yukkuri as an alternate sister.
In addition, the anti-yukkuritis can occur in yukkuri who lose their accessory/are swapped with another, since they can have a huge identity crisis.
The level of intelligence seems to differ from author to author. Some have the accessories "tied" to the yukkuris themselves (as in identifiable by scent, shape, etc) and others have the accessory just being a thing that is needed.
It's just a mechanic that the author uses in their story to propagate the story for the most part, and they adhere to just the basic fan-canon. (can't take it easy without accessory, if yukkuri dies the accessory is uneasy, etc).
Well, there's that, and then there's the fact that this is Takumi, who is a long-time writer in this yuniverse.
I'm sure if we went back far enough, there was something on this to contradict this particular story.
I, in particular, like the idea of 'lost identity,' with removal of accessory. Strange as that is, I identify it as, 'poor eyesight,' since yukkuri tend to be cave-dwellers. However, I like the idea of children and their parents -sometimes- being able to identify one-another, as a means of simply saying, "their bonds surpass their identity." Sort of the way animals of other species can still get along.
Yeah, it does seem inconsistent. On the one hand, most stories (this one being an exception) have them unable to tell a manmade accessory from their original one if they look the same. On the other, many stories have yukkuris able to tell if an accessory is stolen even if they didn't see the theft. So there is a spiritual component.
The answer is, "It never makes any sense at all" as you can see.Even far from it, it ended in unexpected results that it gives discomfort to other yukkuris.EndThat was fun!We guess their accessories may need to have something spiritual, not only shape and materials.Dwaddiieeee
