anko3026: "Everything, Everything is..."
何もかも、何もかもが
While Anon is loitering at the convenience store reading magazines, a chance encounter with an article on the pet-yukkuri boom piques his interest in the human-like creatures, but he's put off by the outrageous prices (for rare-types) that he sees in a yukkuri-fanciers' magazine. Leaving the store, he stumbles across a family of strays (Reimu and Marisa, with one little Marisa) passed out on the ground. He offers to make them his pets, and they eagerly accept. Reimu hesitantly makes one request--she'd like Mister to give her little one chocolate. Anon is moved by her maternal love and goes back in to buy some before he takes them home.
Once he's gotten them home and thoroughly washed them, he asks the parents to tell him about their past.
Reimu was born a stray, the child of a single mother. Her mother was a former gold-badge pet who raised Reimu on stories of the comforts of pet life. Reimu particularly liked to fantasize about that mysterious, wonderful sweet-sweet, chocolate. However, one day Reimu came home to find her mother abused to death by humans, and she was shocked and bewildered to discover that the humans she had thought were so nice could be so cruel.
Marisa was a former pet herself--a silver-badge, bought from the pet store when she was very young. She lived happily with her loving Miss, but then she violated Miss's one and only rule, NO REFRESHING. Marisa snuck off and refreshed with a stray Reimu who lived in the park where Miss took her for walks, and they had little ones. For a while, Marisa was able to keep the secret, but she was supporting her secret family by taking food to them. When Miss found out, she killed Marisa's mate and children and abandoned Marisa, declaring that since silver-badges were no good, she'd buy a gold-badge Chen next.
Eventually, Marisa and Reimu met and started their new family, but it was a struggle to survive, and they were near their limits when they passed out by the convenience store.
Anon is moved. He thinks that it must have been fate that Marisa and Reimu met--both of them had directly known both the kindness and cruelty of humans.
Having heard their stories, Anon finally gives them the chocolate. They are filled with H-HAPPINESS!!! However, this time, Anon is unmoved. Their eating habits are disgusting--talking while eating and spraying saliva and melted chocolate all over the place. Anon opts not to say anything because he feels sorry for them after their hardships and he wants to do some nice things for them.
One month later.
The pet-yukkuri fad is over, and Anon knows why.
His yukkuris are now total scum, ordering him around and calling him "slave."
Unhappy that things have turned out this way, he reminds them of what they were like when he first brought them home. Reimu used to be so happy to call him "Mister." Marisa had said that she had learned that humans were stronger than her. Little Marisa was terrified when she woke up and first saw him. They treat his questions as nonsense, saying that they call him slave because he's their slave, that they're stronger and more wonderful than anything in the world, that it's a privilege for him to be allowed to serve them.
Since conversation is fruitless, Anon flops down and watches TV. By chance, they're spotlighting the issue of yukkuri abuse; while they're not actually promoting abuse, they're not condemning the act of killing yukkuris, and they're vilifying yukkuris as stupid and self-centered.
Anon admits that everything he thought about yukkuris was wrong. It was naive to think that humans and yukkuris were capable of understanding each other.
Marisa demands more food, and Anon grabs her and begins shaking her up and down until her feet rip off. Little Marisa screams, and Anon crushes her tongue.
He offers Reimu a chance to start over--he'll apologize and heal the Marisas if (she/they) will go back to the way they used to be. Terrified, Reimu accepts, but expecting her to fail, Anon tries offering her some chocolate. Instantly, she's back to arrogant scum, saying that the chocolate is inadequate as reparations, that he should give her cake. Anon gouges out her eyes.
The three yukkuris are now fallen on the floor, just like when he found them, but he won't save them again. Yukkuris have been cast away, not just by him, but by the whole world. He dumps them in the garbage and crushes them with his foot. He thinks he hears something like screaming, but it must just be his imagination. It's not words, it's just the bleating of those creatures called yukkuris. Of course humans can't understand them.
Anon takes a bite of the chocolate, and realizes he bought not milk chocolate, but bitter chocolate.
"Ah, it's bitter."
Nobody here but us chickens!
