That's what she gets for protecting her sister. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not objecting to the violence, but blaming it on the victim this time is a stretch.
Well, it's not really blaming. Going all heroic and reckless while being tortured by somebody several hundred times more powerful could only have ended badly (but good for us). I wonder what the next torture will be, though. It'll be pretty funny if the Reimu that Marisa sacrificed her hat to protect now rejects her.
While there's a lot of stories showing yukkuri not recognizing their family when they SEE the accessory being removed, in the greater context, those all probably count as exceptionally dumb.
A yukkuri of average intelligence should be able continue recognizing it's family or friend when they see anon take it's hat. If they don't see the removal it will take more intelligence, or a strong enough bond to notice secondary traits.
Some however may recognize family without accessory, but still reject it for not having one.
I think this is the first time I've seen lick-lick actually work (sorta) on a damaged accessory... Granted, she lick-licked it into a solid ball, but...
I wonder if original Reimu would try to claim it as her treasured stone.
I considered Reimu rejecting Marisa for not having her hat as she was knocked out and unable to pay attention (as well as actually see it- she was facing the other way) while the hat was torn up.
^ I like that one, but it really depends on the author. some authors have the yukkuris instantly going nuts on each other, and others have them recognizing each other even without the hats.
They all seem to recognize the Marisa and feel bad for her, especially the younger Reimu. I think the older Reimu will make fun of or reject Marisa for 1) being hatless and 2) for making fun of her braids.
