Maybe they're not that strict. But knowing Reimu (the Touhou character) and her pennyless description... On Christmas peoples are not going to the temple and make offering.
At least there will be flood of peoples coming on new year.

Well that and non christians celebrating it. Honestly At this point in human society, I would say Christmas became secular and J-man's B-day takes place in the same day, so you celebrate twice if you are a christian of any kind, but that's just me.

According to Japan, Christmas is Family Day... unless you're a young couple, in which case Christmas is Get Laid Day. Sucks if you're single, especially when you're over 30 and still unmarried (aka. Christmas Cake).
You don't really "celebrate" christmas even if you're christian in japan. It's a completely commercial holiday like valentines day and "white day", which is the opposite of valentines day that they invented.
Completely off-topic but how much would a basketball sized object filled with bean paste weight because the way that Deibu slammed that man it looks pretty damn heavy.
If we consider a yukkuri to be basketball sized.... Radius of a basketball = 11.7 cm Volume = 4/3 pi r*r*r = 6708.82 cm
Now, the filling. What is the weight of sweetbeans, sugar, flous, water and assorted additives?
If it were only water, we would have 6.70882 Kilograms, which is pretty damn heavy if they throw it at you. Pure sugar is 1.459 per liter it would be 9.788 kg.
Now we have to quantify what the force needed to launch a yukkuri at waist height is.
The force of launch might be irrelevant. An average anon can launch them with a kick. They can also jump more than their body height just with skin tension and paste movements.
But I imagine an adult yukkuri's normal horizontal flight speed is about 0.3~0.4 m/sec. Of course travel speed is slower because they pause between jumps. For very high jump, maybe 2~3 times the force.
Well the travel speed is also slower because of the lenght between bounce, they are, small, darn small, compare it to the space steps have in human walk and the ammount of track they cover. Only when they "gallop out of danger" is when they cover more space while bouncing but even then, their speed is still slow compared to animals of the same size or bigger but not "heavy".
