It may sound cruel, but if you read it in a general perspective, the anon may have a point about "it's because you tried to live here" at least if you see "here" as in "our places/cities.".
It's usually accepted that the general human population, aka the majority not the minority of abusers and lovers, don't have much of a problem with yukkuris in the forest unless they start raiding farms or something, so usually a clan extermination happens. But in the city, such scenario happens far more often. Yukkuris not realizing that they plainly aren't in a place suitable for them, try and try to live and strive in the cities, instead of trying to return to the forest, at least for those who are strays that weren't "recently ditched pets.".
This usually leads to a continue set of conflicts with humans, between garbage bags being torn and it's content spilled in the streets, park benches occupied by yukkuri families, home invasions, begging, demmanding, park and lot taking, etc. Humans are lead to see, at least, the city yukkuris as pests and may exterminate them at the first sight of the manjuus really going bad, either a yukkuri attacking a kid, way to many cases of garbage spilled in the streets, etc.
I'm sorry for the wall of text, but somehow reading the lines of this anon with a bigger picture view, made me think of this. I clearly don't think Anon's word had this view to begin with and his lines were a typical "it's your fault for existing" kind of thing.
Agreed. But you know, it's ironic, eh? They're kinda in a similar situation to stray cats or pigeons or stuffs. What makes human hate them more, though, is in fact their supposedly (slightly) superior intelligence over common stray animals. I'm not saying yukkuris are smart by any means, but their limited cognitive ability and speech and sense of self, the very things that seemingly makes them smarter than other animals, are what causes human to exterminate them, yes?
If they, say, are only able to 'yu yu' endlessly instead of speaking, if they didn't had that flawed reasoning and logical capabilities, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be treated better than stray animals, but not worse, either. If only~
But i usually think that people having a stronger beef with them because they speak and have flawled logic and reasoning, has more to do with the attitude overall.
I really don't think humans would be this cruel to yukkuris if they were only ignorant, but not stubborn to death and unwilling to accept they are wrong when they are and other of the nasty things yukkuris have in their overall attitude.
Hell one may even answer the question of Marisa of "Why. . .are humans so. . ." with a "well maybe if you kind truly let others take it easy, instead of making them uneasy with your attitude, logic and way, this wouldn't happen. . ." since in a way that may also be the case, now a days yukkuris rarely let others take it easy, unless they are nice yukkuris and nice pets, or your interpretation of taking it easy includes torturing shitheads.

Yes, but one can also argue that the utter imbecility and stubbornness themselves are rooted directly from their ignorance and half-working logic. They come as a package, so to speak. To abolish the scum behavior is to abolish their sentience altogether, or to have them have a proper mindset and reasoning ability, which is damn hard, yes?
Deleted my previous answer since i have a better and shorter one.
People can forgive ignorance from a well meaning creature, but people can't forgive a package of arrogance, stubborness, delusion and ignorance in 1 selfish meaning creature.
