At night, a little Reimu is awake and she cried. In front of her is an uneasy yukkuri.
This is somewhere between the mountain, a forest where human rarely came. There's several dozen yukkuri families living here peacefully in nest hole lined along the bottom of the cliff.
In one of these home, a Marisa is born and now she's sleeping.
The cry woke up Reimu's mother who then saw that uneasy creature. She woke up that uneasy yukkuri, the little one who looks like Marisa.
Little Marisa realized her hat is not there and cried.
Reimu look under the bed and pick up a small hat to put back to her daughter. After that, little Reimu quickly recognize her easy big sis and they rub rub happily.
Because the sky is still dark, they went to sleep again.
Little Marisa had a bad habit of rolling around in her sleep, causing her to lost her hat.
Time passes. Both Marisa and Reimu has grown to a juvenile.
Other than her old habit of rolling in her sleep, Marisa is a great hunter of her generation. She's known to be strong and kind and is already eyed to be a member of the clan's council.
Today, with the bountiful hunt she took with her daddy Marisa, they will held a party because from tomorrow, Marisa will go out to live on her own.
The parents remember the old time. That birth where little Marisa came forth from heaven. That childhood age where she often dropped her hat and cry. The first time she went to hunt and cried after failing to catch butterfly. When she came home hurt after protecting her childhood friend and neighbour Alice from bad yukkuri. When she came home and introduce next door's Alice as her fiancee to her parents.
To add to this family's happyness, Reimu also told her family that she's been proposed by Marisa. Her family is very happy because that Marisa is daughter of council member Marisa. Little Marisa also recognize that Marisa as her rival, a great hunter she can feel assured to let her sister go to.
This is really a happy night. Tomorrow, Marisa will marry and build her own family. At the same time, Reimu will be married to a reknowned family of the clan. They laughed until late night.
But it's also that night when disaster strikes.
Marisa is awakened and finding her hat fallen off again. But unlike usually, the hat is so small.
Chief Patchouli is calling her. Just like her hat, Patchouli is so small.
After seeing around, Marisa is devastated. She transformed into Dosu, but in the process, her body has crushed not only her family but also the neighbours. Included in the casualties is her fiancee.
Marisa has became a Dosu, but because her hat fallen off, it doesn't grow with her body.
The clan members all mock Marisa for being uneasy, but one is particularly angry. This is the daughter of council member Marisa, the yukkuri who should be her sister in law. The reason for her anger is very understandable, everyone would be enraged if their beloved fiancee is killed in the same day of their marriage proposal.
For committing such crime, Marisa is going to be executed. Unfortunately, even though Marisa accepted her punishment, she's still a Dosu. Even equipped with branches, the strongest yukkuri all ends up piercing their own throat when trying to execute Marisa. Council member's daughter Marisa broke her branch and pierce through one of her eyes.
Patchouli starts to believe that this Marisa might be a real Dosu. She heard the story from her parents when long time ago there's a Dosu in this clan.
Patchouli planned to use this Marisa's strength as slave, but as a cover story she told the clan member that Marisa will have long punishment because exile is too easy and execution is impossible. The clan accepted this decision.
Naturally, Dosu wants to work for her clan, so Marisa accepted this punishment.
From early morning, Marisa will hunt for the clan. From noon, Marisa will be given special duty she must do no matter what it is. Then after that she can look for her own food.
For home, Marisa hide in the hill where her family's house used to be. As a Dosu, she doesn't melt even without shelter from the rain.
Since she grow into a Dosu, Marisa can't hunt well. All the know how she have is useless. Many parts of the forest she can't enter for becoming too big. She also can't capture butterfly or grasshopper.
For first day, Patchouli ordered Marisa to enlarge everyone's house. The last house, council member Marisa's house, is the worst. That family don't say a thing at all, and as Marisa digs, the soil keep crumbling because it has been mixed with poo poo. The house is also scattered with poo poo and pee pee.
The family still held grudge to Marisa, but they know they can't win a fight against this big Marisa. Marisa herself still respected this family.
During rainy day when all other yukkuri is hiding, Marisa must still go out to hunt. Seeing this Marisa doesn't die by the rain, Patchouli is getting more sure that this is a Dosu and it strengthened her resolve to use this Marisa as her slave.
Lick and strengthen the hill.
Clean the road from mud after the rain.
Build home for the new generation.
This second life as slave wouldn't happen if she can sleep calmly. Even if she did killed her family when transforming into a Dosu, if she had her hat, the clan would surely accept her as new clan leader.
Without her hat, she can't grow mushroom to shoot Dosu Spark. Without realizing herself as Dosu, she also can't let out Yukkuri Aura.
One day, Marisa got a rest because Patchouli can't think of a job. That day, Marisa wanted to take it easy and watches the cute little ones playing with their teachers in the nursery.
Marisa don't care if the teacher and little ones insult her, because seeing them made her feel easy. Then she fell asleep.
When she woke up, she realized another disaster. This time, she rolled in her sleep and has killed the children. Of course the whole clan is mad, but council member Marisa's daughter (now a council member) stopped them.
She hasn't forgive Marisa, she just know well enough that it's useless trying to kill this Marisa.
So, Patchouli devised another plan. She told Marisa to dig a big hole and also make a big stake.
After the hole is big enough to fit a Dosu, she let Marisa sleep. When she did, the whole clan push the stake to Marisa's feet, injuring her.
From now on, Marisa is the clan's toilet, this is her third life.
If Marisa has just not go to see the little ones, if she just doesn't fell asleep. Yukkuri have bad memory, so as time passes, they would have forgotten about her crime and later accept her as a big fat Marisa but nonetheless a clan member.
Even then, Marisa know she's guilty and accepted the punishment. Even as the clan member everyday treated her as stress relief toy, she accepted them.
Then came winter when snow covered her face and no yukkuri came because they went into hiding.
But even as spring came, no yukkuri went to Marisa.
They all became lazy because of the food Marisa has gathered for the clan. They never realized that Marisa's hunt is not any better than average yukkuri. They also failed to realize that Marisa only hunts for a few months before being punished to be the public toilet. The food is not enough for winter hiding.
The nest Marisa enlarged, they're too big and can't be properly sealed against cold wind. The wall also became too weak and it collapsed from the weight of snow.
Nobody came, leaving Marisa in loneliness. No matter how long she waited, nobody ever came.
One year after Marisa became toilet, in the autumn, finally she died. Her cheek sunken with trail of tear, her teeth all fallen. She looks like a mummy with eyes watching the side of the hole, waiting for someone to arrive. Marisa has died from a very rare cause for Dosu, which is starvation.
