I'm more with the idea that Yukkuri its an urban problem. In a city always they're going to get food, house and refuge. But forest outside Japan its a new game, for some reason the idea of the Duck/Yukkuri war sounds fun to me xD

Sure, you have an abundance of food (garbage) and plenty of places to find shelter (benches, cardboard boxes, etc), but you also have more opportunities for disease (due to rampant mold/parasites brought on by a shitty garbage-based diet) and a much greater chance of mass extinction events (exterminations, anyone?).
Meanwhile, just about any creature with an empty stomach can make a meal out of the average forest Yu, and yet they still have better opportunities to thrive. It also helps to have an astoundingly prodigious reproductive rate.
Back to the point, I'd like to think that Yukkuri are at least capable of small, minor changes over time that help them adapt just a bit more to their chosen environment. The "Pata Pata" flying Reimu and the ever-so-slight variations on accessory designs are just a couple of examples.
